What is the Baldur’s Gate 3 level cap?

The Baldur’s Gate 3 level cap could be a mystery for those who are planning on jumping into the early access version on September 30. Larian Studios says there will be 20 hours of content but that begs the question: What is the max rank in Baldur’s Gate 3?

According to Larian Studios’ Panel From Hell presentation on August 18, the early access Baldur’s Gate 3 level cap is four. It is currently unknown what max rank the full game will have but players can play up to level four during the early access period.

The game will have a few classes, races, and sub-races to choose from but not the game’s full suite. This is obviously still an early version of the game that won’t contain all of its content.

But having a level cap of four might not seem like a lot, which the developers pushed back on in the stream. Larian Studios gave some vague numbers to comfort players. The team claims that the early access build will have triple (or even more) the amount of content when compared to Divinity Original Sin 2‘s first act. This is bigger than some full games today as that CRPG is around 50 to 100 hours.

Larian didn’t go into more detail around the classes, which makes sense since the Panel From Hell stream took place over a month before its early access date. However, it will be set partially in Hell as the player journeys to the mortal realm and the Underdark (which has a lot of secrets and danger according to Senior Writer Adam Smith).

The original Baldur’s Gate had a level cap of seven to eight and its expansion, Tales of the Sword Coast, boosted it to 10. The sequel, aptly named Baldur’s Gate 2, had a level cap of 14 to 21. The expansion Throne of Bhaal, upped it to 31 to 40.
