The Baldur’s Gate 3 Potent Robe is a fantastic item for a warlock or a sorcerer, but players doing a Dark Urge or evil playthrough are worried that they will be locked out of it. This is because the item is rewarded in Act 2 by Alfira the bard, who you encounter her close to the druid’s grove in Act 1. But on an evil runthrough, something bad might happen to her and you can’t get the item if Alfira is dead. Fortunately, there is a way to save her and gain the robe anyway. Here’s how to get the Potent Robe in BG3 with a Dark Urge background.
How to get the Baldur’s Gate 3 Potent Robe with Dark Urge
The key to getting the Potent Robe while you have the Dark Urge background is to knock Alfira unconscious.
After you meet Alfira near the druid’s grove, you need to make sure you turn on non-lethal attacks available in the passive bar. Then you need to start combat and make sure you have a melee character knock her out. (It’s even better if you are able to attack her without her knowing who attacked her, but that might be impossible.) After heading to the camp to sleep, this will replace her with another bard.
From there, you’ll still need to save the grove from the goblins before heading to Act 2, but at the very least, Alfira will still be alive to give you the Potent Robe at the Last Light Inn after saving the tieflings. She’ll likely will have a very poor reputation for you after you knocked her out earlier, but a few gifts will help change her attitude with you.
For all these shenanigans, the Potent Robe is well worth it. While wearing the robe, the wearer deal additional damage with any cantrips equal to their Charisma modifier, which is incredible for Eldritch Blast. It also provides added temp HP every turn that is great for caster classes that don’t have a lot of hit point.
