The Outer Worlds PS5 and Xbox Series X upgrade added in new update

The most recent Outer Worlds update adds support for its second and final expansion, Murder on Eridanos, but it also comes with some enhancements for the PS5 and Xbox Series X. This 1.07 update is not quite an Outer Worlds PS5 or Xbox Series X upgrade, but it does yield some benefits that were not previously available on said consoles.

The Outer Worlds update patch notes contain PS5 and Xbox Series X upgrade

As Twitter user ArmoredFrog pointed out in the above video, this new update adds 60 frames per second to the PS4 version when playing on a PS5. On PS4 Pro, The Outer Worlds would run at a variable 1440p and 30 frames per second. It’s not yet clear what the resolution is when playing the PS4 version through backwards compatibility, but it’s possible it would see a bump in that department, too.

The Xbox One version also ran at 30 frames per second but did run at 4K. However, it now runs at 60 frames per second on the Xbox Series X with this update. It’s worth noting that neither of these are native upgrades to the new consoles. They’re more akin to other updates to the existing games that just take advantage of the PS5 and Xbox Series X. It’s less like Control: Ultimate Edition and more like the last Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order update.

Neither the Outer Worlds’ Twitter account nor Obsidian have mentioned the update patch notes so it’s not clear what else it contains or specifics on the aforementioned technical enhancements. But it does add support for the upcoming expansion, Murder on Eridanos, which is slated to come out on March 17 for $15 on PC, Xbox One, and PS4 versions (no word on the Switch port yet). This final piece of DLC follows the player as they try to solve the murder of aetherwave star Halcyon Heather. Its 10 new trophies and achievements also came out in this patch, but players should only look through them if they want some spoilers.
