Today, more details emerged on the upcoming Splinter Cell series from Netflix. The show doesn’t have a release date yet. However, it looks set to pick up on the adventures of the games’ protagonist, Sam Fisher. Read on to find out more about the Splinter Cell series, and what it may consist of.
Does the Netflix Splinter Cell series hint at a new game?
Currently, Netflix and Ubisoft haven’t clarified whether the Splinter Cell series will result in a new game releasing.
Information on the series is very low at the moment. In fact, today’s announcement is the first we’ve heard since its announcement. What we do know is that it’s animated, and written by Derek Kolstad. He’s best known for creating the wildly popular John Wick action films. Revealed at today’s Netflix Geeked conference is the show’s first image, featuring Sam Fisher with his iconic green-light headset.
Here's your first look at the Splinter Cell animated series, an adaptation of the bestselling @Ubisoft game.
Derek Kolstad, creator of the John Wick franchise, is onboard to write the series.

In an interview with Collider, Kolstad said “every season is going to be self-contained, outside of the evolution” of Fisher. This makes it seem like there won’t be an overlapping narrative over seasons, and there will be a new villain each time around. Therefore, it’s doubtful that new games are coming, as they might contradict the development of the main character that we see in the series. Equally, if the series is successful and carries much hype, Ubisoft would probably rather use their best ideas in the show instead of games.
Are there any Splinter Cell games coming soon?
There hasn’t been a game in the Splinter Cell franchise since 2013’s Splinter Cell: Blacklist. At E3 2017, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot promised the company was still working on the Splinter Cell franchise. In 2019, Ubisoft Creative Director, Julian Gerighty, said there was a game in development – but Ubisoft came out to deny this. All that’s announced at the moment is a VR game for the Oculus VR. Either they’re keeping more news under wraps, or the Netflix series is where Sam Fisher’s future lies at the moment.
In other news, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order received a next-gen update today, introducing faster loading times and better graphical resolution. The much-anticipated Elden Ring was also announced last night, due for release early next year.
