Splinter Cell VR and Assassin’s Creed VR have been rumored to be in development for over a year and now it seems like they’ll be getting revealed soon — a new rumor says that both games will be revealed alongside the Oculus Quest 2 at today’s Facebook Connect event.
Both games are set to be revealed later today at the Facebook event, according to a report from Vandal. However, if you’re hoping for a new core Splinter Cell or Assassin’s Creed game, you’re going to be disappointed — both of these games are said to be original titles completed from scratch for virtual reality.
The first hints of these two games first popped up back in July 2019 when Facebook was reportedly searching for game studios to help flesh out its library of offerings on Oculus with some new games. Then, we learned that the new Splinter Cell VR game could be an Oculus exclusive.
While Assassin’s Creed games have been coming out like clockwork, there hasn’t been much in the way of new developments for the Splinter Cell franchise since 2013’s Blacklist. However, things have been recently looking up: Sam Fisher joined the cast of Ghost Recon Breakpoint and a Splinter Cell anime was announced, so we may see building momentum towards a new core game in the franchise.
For now, it’s best to keep your eyes on Facebook Connect to see what develops — it’s all set to kick off today, September 16, 2020, starting at 1:00 PM EDT. You can watch it on the event’s official website.
