Rick and Morty Season 5 Finale: What is the Central Finite Curve?
The Central Finite Curve in Rick and Morty is the separation of all the universes with Rick and Morty from all the other universes where Rick and Morty do not exist. It is a “wall around infinity” as Evil Morty calls it, which the Ricks have created to make sure they only explore universes where they are the smartest man in that universe — and are always accompanied by a Morty. They even go so far as to engineer Beth and Jerry meeting to ensure a Morty is created in each universe.
Rick and Morty Season 5 Finale: Where does Evil Morty’s yellow portal go?
Evil Morty’s plan in the Season 5 finale is to tear the Central Finite Curve all down and prevent the Ricks and Mortys from escaping, either by Portal Gun to another dimension or through Project Phoenix. Evil Morty has hacked both, so each one instead results in instant death for the various Ricks and Mortys that try them.
Using the main Rick’s knowledge of building the Citadel, Evil Morty manages to blast a hole in the Central Finite Curve and indeed bring it down, escaping to some other dimension where Rick and Morty may not exist by way of a yellow portal. This yellow portal seemingly allows for dimensional travel, too, and has therefore prompted more fan theories.
“If yellow portals are true multidimensional travel outside the central finite curve then the central finite curve existed before C-137 got portal tech as the Rick that C-137 hunts uses a green portal and C-137 is also shown to invent green portals first and not mess with yellow and this all happened before the citadel, so who really created the central finite curve?” wrote Reddit user FerretExtension.
This is an interesting note, as the yellow portal’s existence does seem to suggest that the Central Finite Curve wasn’t created by the Ricks, but was there all along. So, if this theory is correct, who created the Curve? Looks like we’ll have to wait and see.
