Even better, the free-to-play release date for PUBG is right around the corner.

What is the PUBG free-to-play release date? PC, PlayStation, Xbox

When does PUBG go free-to-play? PC, PlayStation, Xbox

PUBG will go free-to-play on January 12, 2022. The change will affect all versions of the game, from PC to PlayStation and Xbox.

This may come as a disappointment to players who paid full price for the game in the years past. However, those fans have little to fear. The team at PUBG Corp haven’t entirely removed the option to pay for those who desire to. Once the game becomes F2P, the studio will launch Battlegrounds Plus, a premium upgrade that offers various exclusive features and cosmetics.

Even better, to reward dedicated fans, PUBG Corp will provide all players who previously purchased PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds with the PUBG Special Commemorative Pack. Among other bonuses, the Special Commemorative Pack includes an upgrade to Battlegrounds Plus. A Battle-Hardened costume skin set and legacy nameplate are also included in the deal.

The PUBG team is making a big push for this free-to-play transition. A new pre-registration website has been opened, offering limited-time opportunities to earn in-game items. There are bonuses for inviting new players, and even a special quiz to earn special rewards from now through January 11, 2022.

All told, the news is good. PUBG will become a free-to-play game on January 12, 2022. Players on PS4, PS5, PC, Xbox One, or Series X|S who haven’t yet checked it out will now have no excuses. When the price tag is zero, it’s hard to say no. Still, only time will tell if going F2P allows PUBG to steal the thunder from Fortnite or Call of Duty: Warzone.
