Tales from the Borderlands new game

New Tales from the Borderlands Game Surprises Players Later this Year

Gearbox made a surprise announcement during their Main Theater Show at PAX East today by revealing there is a new Tales From The Borderlands game in development. Details were thin on the ground ahead of a full reveal later this year, but Telltale Games will not be involved this time.

When will Tales From The Borderlands 2 be released?

The new Tales From The Borderlands game will be released later this year. The game will involve new stories and a completely new adventure based on brand new characters. The teaser image showed two characters silhouetted against the moon while standing next to what I’m going to hope is a giant cupcake. I like cake. Anyway, here’s what Randy Pitchford had to say about why the team is revisiting the universe, courtesy of Twitter user @JayShockblast who filmed the reveal:

“Many of you loved Tales From The Borderlands. As you know, some of the characters from Tales From The Borderlands made their way into Borderlands 3, so we really love that format. There’s a way to create characters, create new stories, and explore all of that differently than what’s possible through looter shooter games. Because of the success and our love for Tales, and because [of] our interest in developing the Borderlands universe in new ways, we thought it would be fun and exciting to dive into the format of interactive fiction once again”.

The game has been developed in-house by Gearbox itself for several years already without any involvement from Telltale Games. 2K Games will be on publishing duties. Platforms are not confirmed so we’re assuming the game will be coming to PlayStation and Xbox consoles, as well as PC. A full reveal is coming this summer.

In other news, Shaman King season 2 has received the green light but a release date is not known at the moment. Elsewhere, The House of the Dead Remake has been confirmed for PS4, Xbox One, PC, and Google Stadia.
