Amazon has dropped details on the New Tales from the Borderlands release date, allowing users to pre-order the Deluxe Edition for a brief window. However, it seems like this might be an accident, now that the products are “temporarily out of stock.” While Amazon doesn’t have a regular or standard version of the game for sale at the time of this writing, the entries for the Deluxe Edition said that it was selling for $49.99 and would be available on October 21, 2022 (this release date is repeated later in the entry) for Nintendo Switch, PS5, PS4, and Xbox Series X (image pictured below).
New Tales from the Borderlands story and setting details
Not much information on New Tales from the Borderlands has been revealed since CEO Randy Pitchford of Gearbox Software revealed it on stage at PAX East in April this year, but the Amazon entries expand on the game’s story and characters too. According to the item description for the the Deluxe Edition on Amazon, New Tales from the Borderlands will move its focus away from Vault Hunters, weapons-corp CEOS, and psychos to the more “downtrodden, intrepid civilians” who are just trying to make a living. The game will feature three characters: the “altrusitic scientist Anu, her ambitious, “streetwise” brother Octavio, and the fierce, frogurt-slinging Fran.”
The plot will see the trio “claw and con” their way through a five-part story to fulfill their rags-to-riches dreams, meeting both new and returning characters in the Borderlands universe. Further down in the product description, these three “lovable losers” will need to face a planetary invasion, a vicious vault monster, and a cold-hearted capitalist.
Like the first Tales from the Borderlands, your decisions will determine which ending you receive. It might be possible to have all three characters achieve their goals, with Fran seeking revenge, Octavio seeking fame and fortune, and Anu hoping for a world that doesn’t just sell weapons and war.
Those who pre-order the Deluxe Edition will receive the Adventure Capital Pack that adds 10,000 in-game currency, an in-game FL4K Vaultlander collectible, and various cosmetic items for the three characters.
