Will there be an Ozark Season 5 release date? That’s a very legitimate question. With fourteen episodes in the fourth season, four more than a usual season for the series, it was meant to cap the Byrde family saga. The series finale finished off many of the threads in the drama, but still opened possibilities for more storylines in the Ozark universe. (WARNING: There will be spoilers for Ozark past this point.)
Ozark Season 5 release date rumors
The likelihood of a fifth season for Ozark is admittedly slim. The series finale surprisingly saw all members of the Bryde family survive and sever their connections to the cartel. The only major plot thread that’s left hanging is Jonah Bryde killing the private investigator Mel Sattem, which might come back to bite the family later down the road.
That said, Jason Bateman, who plays Marty Byrde and is also a executive producer for the series, has said that he’s open to the possibility of an Ozark Season 5 or an Ozark movie. According to an interview with Variety, Bateman would continue the Ozark storyline without hesitation:
“Any job or work environment that was positive, and where you loved the people you were working with and you loved the product you were creating, you’d love to return to it. It’s hard to maintain something that is really pleasurable all the time. And we had that with “Ozark.” So I’d do it again in a second, because what we had just doesn’t happen often.”
Ozark showrunner Chris Munday indicated in an interview with TVLine that “there’s interest” in an Ozark spinoff. In fact, that’s far more likely than a fifth season of the show:
“It’s definitely something that people have talked about a bunch. There’s nothing definitive. We’re lucky that people seem to really like the show so there’s obviously going to be some interest there.
There are still ways to stay inside the show and revisit things. It was really important for me to end this show. This is the work we did, we did our best and we hope people like it. And then anything that spins off from it would be its own distinct thing, even though it’s in our universe.”
All told, even if a Ozark Season 5 doesn’t happen, it looks like the Ozark universe will continue to grow and evolve.
