Playing Destiny 2 on a Steam Deck is a bit complicated. If you look at the store page, you’ll see that the game has an unsupported rating. That means some of all of the game currently doesn’t function on Steam Deck. However, that’s not technically true.
Is Destiny 2 compatible with the Steam Deck
Nothing is preventing Destiny 2 from being compatible with the Steam Deck. After all, it’s just a handheld PC. The catch here is that the game isn’t compatible with Steam OS at all. In fact, Bungie was handing out bans for anyone that tried to play it on the system. Unfortunately, BattlEye doesn’t support Proton, so anyone who installed the game manually and connected was flagged as a cheater.
There is a workaround for this, though. There are now Windows drivers for the Steam Deck, and you can install the game to that OS and play it to your heart’s content. It runs relatively well, and besides a few frame dips here and there, you’ll find it can hit 40-60 fps the majority of the time. Hopefully, Steam will add BattlEye support to Steam OS for Destiny 2 (and other titles), but until then, going with a Windows install isn’t a terrible experience.
