There is currently no word yet on who, if anyone, will be able to replace Jesse Lee Soffer. Since the show’s debut in 2014, Soffer has portrayed the character of Detective Jay Halstead, the former Army Ranger working as an Intelligence Unit detective. His role as the cocky, confident police detective was made more emotionally impactful in season 5 when it was revealed that he had post-traumatic stress disorder.

This upcoming tenth season will be the last season Halstead will appear in, after he and Detective Hailey Upton (Tracy Spiridakos) got secretly married at the end of season 9. The role will likely not be recast, as other actors, such as Jon Seda and Sophia Bush, have left the show and had their characters written out of the rest of Chicago PD.

However, there may be possible ways to fill the gap of Halstead’s absence. Halstead took patrol officer Dante Torres (Benjamin Levy Aguilar) under his wing in a recent episode. The show will also likely continue to feature Detective Upton, who is married to Halstead. With a large ensemble cast of characters, there are many characters to remain attached to as this show carries on.

Chicago PD has been running for nine seasons. The season 10 premiere will air on NBC Wednesday, September 21, at 10 p.m. ET. The next season will star Jason Beghe, Jesse Lee Soffer, Patrick John Flueger, Marina Squerciati, LaRoyce Hawkins, Amy Morton, Tracy Spiridakos, and Benjamin Levy Aguilar.
