The Rings of Power has had a controversial few weeks since it made its debut. Those unhappy with the direction the show was going in took the time to review bomb the series on platforms such as Rotten Tomatoes, although the audience score is slowly showing an upward tick. A vocal minority have also expressed disappointment at the fact that Black actors had been cast in roles such as the Harfoots. A point that author Neil Gaiman took issue with, reminding them that J. R. R. Tolkien had written them as having ‘browner skin’ than other breeds of Hobbits.
Despite this, the world’s most expensive TV show is clearly doing something right. It took in some record-breaking viewing figures for its first two episodes, with over 25 million global viewers on its first day. Clearly a success, it’s looking more likely that Amazon Studios are going to get their wish of putting this show on for five seasons at the very least.
