[Update] Amazon is preparing a major event next week where the company will detail its future plans for its "video business."
According to IGN, press invites were sent out this morning regarding an event that will be held on April 2nd in which Kindle VP Peter Larsen Amazon will lift the lid on what we can only presume is Amazon's set-top box and/or video game machine.
Images of a controller for the alleged console were leaked several days ago, and a recent report even suggests the device may just be a USB dongle. Whatever it is, hopefully we'll find out next week.
[Original] Amazon could very well be launching its heavily-rumored set top box in March, according to a report from Re/code.
"Industry sources say Amazon is getting ready to launch a Web TV box that would compete with Apple TV and Roku’s line of products, which make it easy to move video from the Internet onto your TV," the outlet reports. In addition, the supposed TV box is said to run on Google's Android OS.
Whether or not it will play games remains to be seen, but if Amazon's recent purchase of development studio Double Helix is any indication, this alleged Android-powered machine could very well be the next step for the company in that direction.
