Microsoft kicked off today’s Xbox Games Showcase with a debut trailer for Fable, featuring Richard Ayoade (The IT Crowd) as a giant called Dave. He’s a vegetable enthusiast with a penchant for growing giant vegetables in Albion, but he’s not a fan of heroes.
Does Dave survive the Fable Xbox Games Showcase trailer?
In a story ripped straight out of Jack and the Beanstalk, the Xbox Games Showcase trailer features a hero minding her own business living her life amongst the common folk. There are bandits to beat up, beer to drink, chickens to kick, and mythical creatures to vanquish. Including Dave.
When the hero climbs the beanstalk to the lair of the giant, he doesn’t appreciate being interrupted. Using his “comically-large weapons” and plenty of furniture, a battle ensues as Dave attempts to get rid of the intruder. It’s unsure whether Dave and his vegetables managed to survive, but he certainly needs a new pair of glasses anyway.
We do know the trailer wasn’t full CGI as Microsoft had previously promised that none of its first-party titles would feature full-CGI trailers. Other than that, little else was revealed about Fable. There’s no release date window, gameplay details, special editions, or pre-orders to be seen.
As the show is also avoiding last year’s 12-month promise, we can’t guarantee a release date before June 2024 either. In fact, with so little shown at the show and rumors of a complete reboot, there’s every chance the game is a long way off from being released. One thing that is certain is that the game won’t be coming to Xbox One, only making its way to Xbox Series X|S and PC. There will be a day-one release on Xbox Game Pass too, like Microsoft likes to do with all of its first-party titles.
