What are the best powers in Starfield and why?
In general, we found that the best use of powers in combat is for crowd-control effects. Anti-Gravity Field is the strongest AoE disabling power, making all enemies within the area around you float in the air without being able to do anything. Both Gravity Well and Sunless Space are also great choices for CC, with the former sucking enemies into a space and the latter freezing enemies in place for quite a long time. Even better, Gravity Wave knocks enemies in a line prone for the very low cost of 25 Power. Unarmed builds benefit greatly from these powers.
There are several fantastic utility powers as well. At the top of the heap here is Void Form, which makes you invisible for 20 seconds. While enemies up close might be able to figure out where you are, most that are trying to fire at you from cover will not be able to target you. For dialogue, Precognition provides you a sneak peek into what an NPC will say depending on your answer, while Parallel Self spawns a duplicate of yourself without the need of targeting a foe or corpse like with other powers. This duplicate will even hold the same weapon as you are, without it having to worry about ammo.
Meanwhile, both Elemental Pull and Personal Atmosphere are great time-savers. Elemental Pull makes mining a breeze without you needing to take out the Cutter, and Personal Atmosphere pretty much lets you sprint indefinitely.
As for damage-dealing powers, Supernova deals a fair amount of damage to all enemies in a sphere around you. That said, when it comes to inflicting damage, powers are just not as strong compared to guns. That’s why we generally recommend disabling powers that allow you hit enemies with more bullets.
