PS5 Slim Size vs OG PlayStation 5 Dimensions Volume How Big Small

PS5 Slim Size: How Big Is it Compared to OG PS5?

The PS5 Slim size, as the name suggests, is indeed thinner than the original PS5. PlayStation has revealed the official PS5 Slim dimensions for both the new standard PS5 and the new PS5 Digital Edition. The PS5 Slim model reduces the overall volume by over 30% and the weight by 18% or more. This smaller form factor comes by way of an attachable Ultra HD Blu-ray Disc Drive and a 1TB SSD as internal storage. But you may be wondering exactly how big the PS5 Slim actually is compared to the older PS5 model. Here’s how small the PS5 Slim is relative to the original PS5.

PS5 Slim size vs. OG PS5 size

The PS5 Slim size is 358 x 96 x 216 mm for the regular model and 358 x 80 x 216 mm for the Digital Edition model. By comparison, the older OG PS5 size is 390 x 104 x 260 mm for the regular model and 390 x 92 x 260 mm for the Digital Edition.

Crunching all of the numbers, this means that the original PS5 is about 42% larger than the PS5 Slim for the regular model and about 50% larger for the Digital Edition. Of course, these numbers are based on the total volume of a box, so they’re not exact since the PS5 is a curved shape and not a block like the PS2. But this should still give you a general idea of how much big the OG PS5 is to the new PS5 Slim SKU.

As far as a weight comparison, the PS5 Slim is 3.2 kg for the regular model and 2.6 kg for the Digital Edition. The original PS5 is 4.5 kg and 3.9 kg respectively, so the reduction is quite substantial.

If you already own a PS5, here’s whether you should buy a PS5 Slim, and if you can buy the PS5 Slim disc drive separately.
