Is there a Cities Skylines 2 Crashing Fix

Is There a Cities Skylines 2 Crashing to Desktop Fix?

If you play Cities Skylines 2 long enough on PC, you’ll likely get at least one crash to desktop. These come suddenly and without warning and can lead to quite a bit of lost progress if you’re running the game with default settings. We’ll explore whether there are any fixes for CS2 crashing below or things you can do to make them less often and less impactful.

Is there a fix for Cities Skylines 2 crashing?

There are a few things you can do to help reduce Cities Skylines 2 crashing. Even though I play the game on an RTX 4090, it can sometimes struggle, and the thing that improved stability the most was dropping the resolution from 4K to 1440p and setting most of the graphics options to medium. I still get crashes from time to time, but it’s less often than it was before. If you’re playing on an NVIDIA GPU, Also, I found the game ran better on driver 537.42 than it does on the latest (as of writing) version, which is 537.58. So, if you’re having an especially hard time playing, it might be worth rolling back. However, your results may vary.

The biggest problem I had with crashes (besides the obvious annoyance) was that autosave wasn’t turned on by default in the press version. That might change in the retail build, but the first thing I’d do is make sure it’s turned on. Additionally, the game was set to local saves only by default, so make sure to click on the tab for Steam Cloud saves before recording your progress.

Unfortunately, CS2 just wasn’t quite ready for launch. The only thing that is going to fix these crashes permanently is an update. Paradox addressed the game’s shortcomings and plans to patch it extensively and support it for years to come. However, that’s not a lot of help to those of us who are going to be playing it out of the gate.

If you have the bad luck to have the game crash frequently and the advice above doesn’t help, you might want to throw in the towel for a bit. There should be a steady stream of updates coming out over the next few months, and it’ll save some frustration just to come back once a week and see if the latest patch did the charm.
