A persistent The Finals Kicked From Server bug is forcing players to quit out of multiplayer matches. Many are seeing a pop-up that says “Kicked From Server” and then in a smaller font “Error Code: -1” below it before being brought back to the main menu.
The Finals beta playtest has become one of the popular games on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S, so much so that developer Embark Studios did not anticipate so many people to join. This has led to various bugs with matchmaking not working as it should or the server not responding at all. Here are some solutions to resolve the Kicked From Server error in The Finals.
How to fix The Finals kicked from server error
The following are some steps you can take to fix the Kicked From Server or Error Code -1 in The Finals:
- Wait for servers to fix itself – We don’t usually recommend players to wait around doing nothing. But according to the official Twitter account for The Finals, Embark Studios is actively “continuing to work on expanding [its] capacity for Open Beta.” This means that server interruptions will be frequent as the beta continues.
- Change server location to manual or automatic – If the region for your matches is set to automatic, choose a location in a region that’s different than yours. For those in America, this would likely be Asia or Europe. Or if you have set a specific region for matchmaking, turn it back to automatic. Either way, there’s a chance that connecting to a different server will make sure you don’t get kicked.
This Error Code -1 typically occurs while playing ranked tournament mode. You can restart the game, check antivirus and firewall, verify game files, and update drivers, but this error is most likely on the developer’s side and not yours.
At the very least, do not attempt to continue connecting to the same server over and over again. This can lead your account to become banned or be penalized for ranked play.
