Jack Black May Be Joining The Minecraft Movie Cast

It’s fair to say that most Minecraft fans are aware that Jason Momoa is set to star in the movie adaptation of the hit game. However, a new report says that Jack Black may also be joining the cast for the upcoming adaptation.

Not confirmed yet, though

According to a recent report from Deadline, the high-octane actor known for voicing Po in Kung Fu Panda and being 50% of Tenacious D may be starring in the Minecraft movie. Sources indicate that not only will Black be in the film, but he could play the role of the game’s most popular character, Steve.

At the time of writing, the report hasn’t been confirmed by anyone officially involved in the project. However, given the success of the recent Super Mario Bros Movie, in which Jack Black voiced Bowser, it wouldn’t be too surprising to see him take on a role in further video game adaptations.

In fact, the 54-year-old actor and musician is playing the part of Claptrap in the Borderlands movie, so it’s not too outlandish to assume he could be in Minecraft as well.

The report goes on to say that the plot for the movie is now “under wraps,” with the finished product expected to be out in April 2025.

Since launching in 2011 (or earlier for those counting the alpha releases), Minecraft has become one of the biggest-selling video games of all time. Not long ago, it surpassed 300 million units sold, so it’s going to be interesting to see how well the movie adaptation will fare at the box office.
