The primary purpose of crafting a well in Enshrouded is to provide a reliable source of water for your character. Finding the well recipe is essential since dehydration leads to health loss, making you more vulnerable to enemies and the environment. It also reduces your stamina regeneration, limiting your ability to run, jump, and fight effectively. Additionally, water is used in various crafting recipes, including food, potions, and other essential items.

There are 2 types of wells in Enshrouded:
- A Water Well is a basic well that provides 5 water units per scoop.
- An Improved Water Well holds more water (10 units) and recharges faster.
While an Improved Water Well looks like a better option players should remember that it requires Sandstone and Iron Bars which are late-game resources.
Besides crafting a well you can also utilize Rainwater for enhanced water supply. In the Early game, Abandoned Villages are a good source of water too. Utilize wells in ruined settlements like Longkeep and Rookmore.
