Uncharted: The Lost Legacy is the sixth entry in Naughty Dog’s treasure hunting franchise (I’m not counting the card game), and it’s the first that doesn’t feature Nathan Drake as the main playable character. Starting a series six games in can be intimidating and a big question for newcomers is: Do I need to play the other Uncharted games first?
It’s understandable if you haven’t played many of the games that you might feel that The Lost Legacy would be full of spoilers for previous games. However, it seems like for the most part; you’ll be okay playing the new title as the plot is mostly free of significant references to previous Uncharted games. If you’re interested in checking out how Chloe and Nadine’s adventure pans out, you should be fine to play it first.
Will playing Uncharted: The Lost Legacy spoil the other games?
The Lost Legacy does contain spoilers for previous Uncharted games, but for the most part, they’re relatively minor. Chloe Frazer and Nadine Ross featured prominently in previous titles, but this time they’re taking the spotlight, and their story is relatively self-contained when it comes to narrative.
You’ll hear references to characters and happenings from past games as Chloe and Nadine converse. But rather than spoiling anything for you, it will likely make you want to go back and play the games you’ve missed. There are a few spoilers that might dull the surprise from Uncharted 4 especially, but I didn’t find them severe enough that they would ruin the experience entirely.
Is Uncharted: The Lost Legacy a good place to start playing the series?
Uncharted is one of those series I’ve been dying to play, but have kept putting it off because of how intimidating the prospect of having to play through five games to get the full experience. However, The Lost Legacy’s loose connection to the rest of the games gives you a chance to play without worrying about knowing anything the franchise.
As I said above, hearing the little snippets about events in previous games encouraged me to go back and play them. If you’ve been on the fence about committing to playing through the series, I suggest starting with The Lost Legacy and deciding from there whether to go back and play the other Uncharted games. You might discover that you’re a huge Uncharted fan after all and tear through the previous titles all the way up through the latest, Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End.
