Cuphead Controller Remap: How to Make the Game Much Easier

If you’ve been struggling with Cuphead like I have, then chances are you’re looking for any help you can get in tackling the game’s steady supply of absurdly difficult bosses. While the game features very precise platforming and run-and-gun action, the default control system isn’t really conducive to pulling off the well-timed maneuvers that are required to succeed. However, by changing a few of the inputs, you can quickly start making more progress.

The game’s most vital moves currently take place on its face buttons. While this would make sense in an old-school run-and-gun game, a modern controller allows for much more freedom in this regard, and it’s best if you take advantage of both the triggers and bumpers on your Xbox One controller. You can remap the game’s buttons from the controller settings in the pause menu, and if you’re struggling with the default system then I strongly suggest you do so.

Though some have noted that they prefer the dash to be locked to the left trigger, I find it much more natural to assign it to the right trigger, while the EX Shot is locked to the left. Whereas the dash is usually located on the Y button, moving it to the right trigger has allowed me to make some vital last-second saves, which can be crucial to making it through some of Cuphead’s more difficult challenges.

Here’s the Cuphead controller remap that should help you on your adventures with the game:
