Skyrim Switch Master Sword Guide: How to Unlock Link’s Master Sword and Outfit Even Without Amiibo

With the release of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim on Switch comes several unique features to the console and handheld hybrid version. One of the biggest features is the ability to run around all of Skyrim Switch wearing Link’s Breath of the Wild outfit and Master Sword.

Simply put, the easiest way of accomplishing this is with amiibo figures. Early on in Skyrim for Switch, you can go into your spells menu and find an exclusive Dragon Shout called Amiibo. Equip it, use the shout, and a circle will appear on the ground near you. From there, you only need to scan your amiibo figure to summon a chest inside the circle.

Any non-Zelda amiibo will summon a random chest containing anything from food to gold to weapons and armor. However, if you use any Zelda-themed amiibo like the Link Archer amiibo, you will have receive a chest that has a 20% chance of containing the three Breath of the Wild-inspired pieces: Link’s Master Sword, Champion’s Tunic, and Hylian Shield.

The only caveats for using amiibo to get these items is that you can only scan one figure per day and that’s if you already own these sometimes difficult to find figures in the real world. For those don’t own the necessary amiibo or simply don’t like having to potentially wait, there is a way to get all of these items without a single amiibo figure.

To do so, we recommend you progress through the main story of Skyrim Switch until you reach the point where you learn the Dragon Shout “Clear Skies.” This is a shout important to the main story as it lets you open the barrier on the High Hrothgar mountain. It’s worth noting that there are some ways to glitch around the barrier.

Once you are able to access the summit past the barrier, proceed to the top of the mountain called the Throat of the World, also known as the highest point in the entire land of Skyrim. Just below the peak of the mountain where the dragon tablet is located, there is a clear and level area.

Follow the path leading west from here past the rocks and it will take you to the location seen above where the chest is located. Inside you will find all three pieces: Master Sword, Champion’s Tunic, and Hylian Shield. You can have duplicates of the latter two pieces from using both amiibo and this method, but there can only ever be one Master Sword in the world of Skyrim on Switch so don’t lose it.
