PUBG has hit the Xbox One, and with it comes a new control scheme. Unfortunately, PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds doesn’t really give you any sort of tutorial, so you’re left to find out the controls on your own. Making things a bit harder, PUBG doesn’t have the typical control scheme that other FPS games do, so don’t feel bad if you don’t know how to do things like aim down sights, reload, or change your gun’s fire rate right off the bat.
How to Reload in PUBG on Xbox One
So I finally found your first gun and ammo in your first match of PUBG on Xbox One yesterday, but there was a problem. I didn’t actually know how to reload it. Most FPS games let you reload your weapon with a quick button tap, but not PUBG.
Instead, on PUBG on Xbox One, you’ll need to press and hold the X button before your avatar will insert a magazine and ready the weapon for firing. For your first few firefights expect to forget this. I died three or four rounds during an intense exchange of gunfire with another player because I forgot that no matter what to reload you always have to hold X.
How to Aim Down Sights in PUBG on Xbox One
Learning how to aim down sights is essential if you want to have any sort of accuracy with your weapon in PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds on Xbox. The crosshair when you’re in third-person is serviceable, but if you want to consistently hit your target (or hit anything at all in first-person), you need to use your sights.

ADS in PUBG has the exact opposite problem that the reloading controls do. In most FPS games you hold the left trigger to bring your weapon’s sights up for accurate aiming. In PUBG on XBox, you just need to tap the left trigger to bring up your sights. Once they’re up, you just need to tap the left trigger again to put them down.
If your weapon has a variable scope, tapping the left trigger will pull it up. You can then use d-pad up to zoom in, or d-pad down to zoom out.
How to Change Your Fire Rate in PUBG on Xbox One
I know the disappointment of picking up a Micro-Uzi and encountering another player, thinking I’m going to spray them with 9mm, only to be met with a single feeble bang when I hold down the trigger. Weapons you pick up in PUBG start in single-shot mode, and to use full-auto or burst you’ll need to change your fire rate.
To change your Fire Rate in PUBG on Xbox you just need to tap the left d-pad button. You’ll know it’s changed by looking down near your ammo count in the bottom right part of the screen. If your weapon has alternate fire modes, it’ll turn from “single” to “auto” near your ammo count when you press the left direction button.
