In the Monster Hunter World beta, your most significant challenge will be facing off against Nergigante. Figuring out Nergigante’s weakness is the key to defeating it, but it can be tough to do when you’ve got a giant, deathly dragon in front of you. Below we’ll list the Nergigante weakness in Monster Hunter World and the best strategies and tips to beat it.
Where to Find Nergigante in Monster Hunter World
You’ll know it’s time to go fight Nergigante for the first time when you get the quest “The Insatiable Nergigante.” This mission will take you out to the Elder’s Recess which is a semi-active volcano. You’ll want to make sure you bring a full stack of Cold Drinks so that you can counter the effects of Extreme Heat in areas 7, 10, 11, 12, and 13.
You’ll find Nergigante in area 14 of the Elder’s Recess. It will become hostile immediately once you enter medium range so prepare to fight when you get close to it.
What is the Nergigante Weakness in Monster Hunter World?
Nergigante is one of the more massive monsters you’ll find in Monster Hunter World, so its weak spot is in a somewhat odd place. The best place to attack Nergigante from is its belly and back legs. Nergigante does a lot of damage but doesn’t have a ton of health, so if you can just withstand or avoid its attacks, you’ll be able to take it down fairly quickly.
One thing you can do to reduce Nergigante’s ability to attack is to break off the spikes on his arm. You can do this by either baiting him to do a dive bomb, in which he’ll break his own spikes or by attacking them directly. When the spikes are black and hardened they can no longer be broken, and they cause attacks to bounce off. Once the spikes have hardened Nergigante will use them as weapons and these attacks are its most dangerous. It will dive bomb while throwing the spikes or charge and throw the spikes when it stops. If these hit you it can be a one-hit KO. Fortunately, these attacks can be interrupted by Flash Pods, so make sure to keep a supply on you for the fight.
In addition to the spikes, you can also break Nergigante’s tail, which will reduce the range of its tail whip attacks. Breaking its horns will lower the damage of its charge attacks.
Once Nergigante gets weak, it’ll start limping, and you’ll know he’s about dead. One thing to note is that since it’s an Elder Dragon Nergigante cannot be trapped or captured, so you’ll have to pummel it until it dies. When Nergigante is close to death it’ll make its way to area 15, its nest. This area is very tight and it can be easy for Nergigante to take you out here. Its spike attacks are difficult to dodge in close quarters, and it’s easy for the fight to turn on you here. Make sure to keep breaking its spikes off as they grow back before they can harden. The fight will take about 15-20 minutes if everything goes well.
