Ni no Kuni 2 Blue Chest

Ni no Kuni 2 Blue Chests: How to Unlock and Open Blue Chests

When playing Ni no Kuni 2, you’re going to start seeing some blue chests pretty early in the game. Unlike the run-of-the-mill red chests that pop right open, there’s no clear way to open the blue chests. Every time you try to open one, you’ll just get a message that it’s locked with no clue on how to find the key. You’ll probably get to the point where if a chest is blue you ignore it, but trust me, later on, you’ll find a way to get to the treasure inside. Below we’ll tell you how to unlock the blue chests in Ni no Kuni 2.

How to Unlock and Open Blue Chests in Ni no Kuni 2

The first time you find a Blue Chest in Ni, no Kuni 2 will likely be before you even get to the future site of Evermore. You’ll be bopping around the world map, minding your own business, and suddenly visions of new and unique treasure will flit through your head when you first spy a blue chest. Little do you know, these unassuming little chests will taunt you for a good part of your journey.

You’ll encounter plenty more of these on your journeys, but you won’t actually get the ability to unlock them until relatively late in the game. You need a particular non-battle spell called Spring Lock to actually get inside them, and you won’t be able to get Spring Lock until you’re the King of a large and prosperous kingdom.

To get the Spring Lock spell, you’ll need to first level your kingdom up to level 3. This is going to take a while, so just resign yourself to no opening the blue chests for most of the game. To get your kingdom to level 3 you’ll need to recruit citizens like crazy, and you’ll need to expand the capacity of your coffers if you hope to save up enough Kingsguilders to do it.

Once you’ve leveled your kingdom up to level 3, you need to upgrade your spellworks to level 3. Once you’ve done that you can research the Spring Lock spell at the spellworks. There aren’t any prerequisite things you have to research, and you don’t need a citizen with a specific skill to research Spring Lock. Once you’ve met the requirements of a level 3 kingdom and spellworks you’re free to research Spring Lock at any time.
