Introduction [BPINTR]
===============================================================================
Welcome to Paradise City, where the grass is green and the cars are pretty.
Perhaps the only thing that can't be argued about in Criterion's newest Burnout
game. Gone are the circuits to be replaced by a giant open-world environment.
Gone are crash junctions, replaced by the bouncy Showtime mode. Gone is a retry
button but gone are loading screens too. Love it or hate it Criterion created
a very accomplished game, and one that I hope to do justice for with this FAQ.
Some areas may be incomplete for now so don't start hounding me for Smash
locations and so forth, they will be here in time. My email is right there at
the top so fire away with any sensible questions, I will do my best to answer
them.
If you're trying to find something, hit Ctrl + F and use the 6 character codes
attached to each section and sub-section of the guide. Doing this should take
you straight to what you need. If you think I'm missing something important
(that it doesn't look like I'm going to add at some point anyway) then again,
email me to let me know.
Anyway, I hope the guide proves useful for people, and that you're all enjoying
the game!

Menus [BPMENU]
===============================================================================
Criterion have tried to minimise the number of menus you have to use to play
the game, and where they couldn't they made them pretty accessible in game.
There are a lot of options available to you however, so I will explain them
here.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Pressing Right on D-Pad while offline gives you the "Easy Drive" menu. From
there you have these options:
Friends - Select a friend to invite them to your game or accept their
invite.
Freeburn Online - Join a match, create your own or search for what to join.
Road Rules - Turn on Road Rules here, just as easy by pressing up on the
D-Pad.
The Lineup - Takes you to a screen where you can view all of the mugshots
you have collected.
View Challenges - Lets you view what the challenges are and what you've done.
Player Match - Create/Join/Search an unranked game, can be race or freeburn.
Ranked Match - Create/Join/Search for ranked games, races done here will
affect your online ranking.
Leaderboards - View Road Rules leaderboards and your online race ranking.
News - View the latest news.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Pressing Start on the controller brings up the various Pause Menus:
Driver Details
License - View how much of the game you've completed, play time, cars owned
and number of discoveries found so far.
Records - View your highest scores, total takedowns and number of events
won.
Discovery - Breaks down what discoveries you have and where they were. Useful
to limit where you need to look for those last smashes.
Under The Hood
Save/Load - Save and Load your game, surprisingly.
Options - Turn Atomika off, change volume levels, turn your Xbox
Live Camera on and off.
EA Trax - Control what music you hear and when you hear it.
Roll Credits - Unlocked when you get your Burnout License.
Screen Brightness - What it sounds like. I had to turn mine down by 3.
Account Management - Gives you some options tied to your EA Account such as
providing anonymous usage info.
Sponsor Product Code - This will be where you enter the codes for the sponsor
cars. See later in the guide for those details.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Paradise City Live!
This menu is actually identical to the one brought up by pressing right on
the D-pad in game, you can also view a few stats about your online
progression, such as Freeburn challenges completed and online wins.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Paradise City Map/Crash Nav (also accessible using Back button)
From here you can filter what you can see on the map by event type or by Road
Rules options. Very useful for seeing what roads you need to do Road Rules on
as well as seeing who's beating you.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
In-Game menu while hosting an Online game:
Friends - Invite friends to your game
Select Challenge - Choose a Freeburn Challenge for everyone to do.
Road Rules - Turn on Road Rules for yourself
Create Match - Create a race or series of races for everyone to do.
Change Access - Make the game open, invite only or for friends and recent
players.
Show Players - Show a list of players in-game and their online stats.
View Map - Brings up a map, useful to see where others are.
Options - Brings up same menu found when you pause game.
Leave Game - Leave the game, this will destroy the game for everyone.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
In-Game menu with another person as host
This is the same menu as when you're host, minus the Create Match and Change
Access options. Leaving the game will not destroy it also.
===============================================================================
Cars [BP1000]
===============================================================================
In Paradise City you begin with just 1 car and have to work your way up from
there. There are 81 in total (in the NTSC version) and to get these cars will
require you to beat almost all of the game. Some are earned by winning a number
of events, some by winning Burning Routes, and so on. As you progress the cars
generally get faster and stronger, but even the slower ones have their uses.
===============================================================================
Car Types [BP1100]
===============================================================================
The cars you unlock throughout the game are split into 3 distinct groups:
speed, aggression and stunt. Each is best suited to certain events, but rarely
is a specific car the only choice for a job.
===============================================================================
Boost Types: Speed [BP1110]
===============================================================================
Speed cars use the Burnout 2 way of boosting. You can only use boost when the
bar is full, and you can earn Burnouts by chaining your boost together. Boost
is best earned with oncoming, near misses and drifts and to earn Burnouts
you'll need to be doing at least 1 of those 3 things regularly. Speed cars also
have the shortest boost bar which makes them poor candidates for Showtime and
the boost bar makes stunt run combo's hard to maintain. Although they are the
fastest cars, unsurprisingly they are also the most fragile which really means
you're only likely to use them for Races and Time Road Rules.
===============================================================================
Boost Types: Aggression [BP1120]
===============================================================================
Aggression cars are the largest in size and the weightiest of your choices.
Their high strength is perfect for surviving Marked Man and destroying the AI
cars in Road Rage. The boost bar is based on Burnout 3, in that taking down
cars adds a chunk to your bar (up to 3x) and being taken down removes a chunk.
The best way to earn this boost is obviously through aggressive tactics;
takedowns instantly fill the bar, but general shunting and grinding works
wonders too. The size of these cars generally means they handle like boats,
which along with slower top speeds generally means you won't use them in Stunt
Runs or Races. However they are perfect for Showtime mode due to their large
surface areas and the biggest boost bar in the game.
===============================================================================
Boost Types: Stunt [BP1130]
===============================================================================
Stunt cars are personally what I use for as much as possible. They have top
speeds close to the best speed cars but give you the advantage of being able
to boost whenever you choose. Their boost bar size is halfway between a speed
car and aggression car, and boost is best earned by doing stunts (surprise!).
Obviously they are the car of choice for stunt runs, but will do very well in
most races too due to the quick ability to recover from wrecks versus Speed
cars. They are not quite strong enough for Marked Man and Road Rage, but will
do quite well in all Road Rules events.
===============================================================================
Shutdowns [BP1200]
===============================================================================
There are 29 cars that you will win for completing a certain number of events,
but rather than them showing up in the Junkyard they will start driving around
the city, waiting for you to take them down. They won't appear straight away,
usually turning up a few minutes later as you drive around the city. Give chase
and take them down if you want, it's optional. If you crash then they can
disappear, but don't worry as they will show up again and again until you do
manage to take them down.
===============================================================================
Auto-Repair Benefits [BP1300]
===============================================================================
Another thing to note is that every car you own (minus the sponsor cars) will
need to be repaired before you can change their paint finish. Also, if you
have yet to discover the cars Burning Route, repairing the car will discover
it for you and put a star on the map to show you where to go.
===============================================================================
Car List [BP1400]
===============================================================================
Excluding the Carbon cars and the Sponsor cars, there are 70 normal cars to
choose from. They will appear here in the order they show up in the Junkyard.
Something I will try to add for every car is how many times it can be wrecked
in a Road Rage or Marked Man before the event is over. This varies from car to
car and usually the heavier the car is the more times it can crash. Of course,
using an Auto-Repair will reset this number so bear that in mind when playing.

===============================================================================
Gold & Platinum Cars [BP1700]
===============================================================================
As a special bonus for beating the game to a certain point, you can unlock
additional paint finishes for your cars. The gold paint finish is earned when
you receive your Burnout Elite license, and covers the entire car in a shiny
gold finish, which you can show off online too. The platinum finish is earned
when you complete the game 100% and unlock the Criterion Elite achievement, and
it works much the same way as the gold finish.
One thing to note is that sponsor cars and Carbon cars cannot be repainted, so
if you wanna show off how far you've gone through the game you won't be able to
drive any of those.
===============================================================================
Offline Mode [BP2000]
===============================================================================
The offline mode is the biggest chunk of the game and provides you with a huge
of amount of things to do. Everything you do counts for something, be it new
cars, a license upgrade or simply better knowledge of the map. The ultimate
goal is to obtain your Burnout Elite license, which will require mastery of not
only every event type but Paradise City itself.
===============================================================================
License Progression [BP2100]
===============================================================================
You start off the game with a Learner License and the choice to go anywhere on
the map. Drive around to discover events, and start tackling them to upgrade
your license. Each time you receive a new license the events you've done will
reset (minus Burning Routes), giving you the option to redo your favourites
and benefit from it. The last time they reset is when you earn your Burnout
License, at which point if you want the Elite License you'll need to beat
*every* event. The chart below shows what you need to do to progress:
License Type Requirements
Learner License Received at start of game
Class D License Win 2 events
Class C License Win 7 more events, 9 total
Class B License Win 15 more events, 24 total
Class A License Win 26 more events, 50 total
Burnout License Win 40 more events, 90 total
Burnout Elite License Win every event, total between 183 and 210*
*This number is dependent on how many Burning Routes you completed before
earning your Burnout License. As they don't reset, you can end up repeating
more events than is necessary if you ignore them or otherwise don't do them.
===============================================================================
Races [BP2200]
===============================================================================
The most important thing to know about the races in this game is that they can
only end in 1 of 8 different places, each representing a point on the compass.
There are 40 races in total and 5 will end at each of the compass points, so it
pays to know the best routes to each finish line, because the races can start
at any intersection on the map.
You will never to be told specifically where to go, although the game will try
to suggest the shortest route by flashing the road names at the top of the
screen as you approach a recommended turn. This can be useful some of the time,
*when* it's correct. Go off the recommend path, even if it shortens your route,
and you can confuse the game, resulting in it telling you to make less than
ideal turns, so make sure you know your shortcuts before using them. If you
feel lost pause and use the full map to work out your route beforehand, it
takes you out of the game but can be a lifesaver if you're unsure where to go.
Following AI cars can be handy as well, although some will get lost too from
time to time.
My personal choice of car for races is a Stunt car with decent boost and good
handling. With so many ways to crash, having boost instantly available on
respawning is a godsend. Speed cars do better with zero traffic to contend
with, but you'll only see those races online. Also worth noting is that the
faster the car you choose, the faster the cars you race against will be, so if
you struggle with fast cars and traffic, fall back to some of the slower
machines.
Anyway, I've grouped the races by where they finish, as generally the routes
you take to each will share some similarites at the end.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
South-East - The Wildcats Stadium
1. Stealing 1st
Start: Webster & 7th
Distance: 1.1 miles
Route: This is effectively a drag race down Webster. Stay in oncoming if
you want to keep your boost up, but make sure not to crash. A crash
early in this race is recoverable, after about halfway it won't be.
Should be an easy win in any car.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
2. Curveball
Start: Lambert & E. Crawford
Distance: 2.6 miles
Route: This will start you going south on Lambert. Make a left on 7th which
is just up ahead, go with the same way traffic. If you can take the
shortcut on the right, take it as it cuts out a turn. If not then
make a right on Franke. Follow this South-East until it turns into
2nd Street. Follow this straight until you reach Webster and do a
right, making sure not to drop down onto the Freeway. At this point
you're just a block from the finish, and should be way ahead of the
AI who take a much longer route.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
===============================================================================
Burning Routes [BP2300]
===============================================================================
This is the one event type where you are limited to using 1 specific car for
each route. The reason for this is because each time you complete a cars route
you will unlock a "special" version of the car, with a new paint job and
slightly modified stats. The special cars don't have their own routes however.
As with races, each Burning Route can start at any intersection but will only
end at one of the 8 finish lines. You're given a time to beat and must get from
start to finish within that time to win the event. Usually this limit will give
you leeway to crash once or twice at most, and you'll need to boost as much as
possible as well as take the shortest route you know.
The difficulty of these events generally rises in the order the cars become
available in the game but will also depend on how well you can handle some of
the cars. The Carson Inferno Van is not going to go from A to B as easily as
the Montgomery Hyperion, and although this is somewhat reflected in the targets
you have to beat, it can still cause problems.
The list below is ordered by the unlocking of cars in the game, but won't
necessarily be the order you do them. I will generally only list shortcuts in
my route if they are necessary to beat the target time, and the "Author Best"
time represents my best attempt using the route I describe.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1. Hunter Calvary
Start - E. Crawford & Patterson
End - The Wildcats Baseball Stadium
Distance - 1.5 miles
Target Time - 1:10
Route: Being the first Burning Route in the game it's also by far the
easiest. Follow E. Crawford around the curve, head straight down the
road as it turns into Webster, and head straight for the finish. Your
only real obstacles are the traffic, so stay out of oncoming if it's
messing you up. Even then crashing a couple of times won't cost you
the event.
Author Best - 38.52
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
2. Hunter Mesquite
Start - Lambert & 5th
End - The Naval Yard
Distance - 2.1 miles
Target Time - 1:20
Route: Again this is a very easy route to complete, there's only one place
you will need to make a turn at. Take Lambert South and follow it as
it curves around to the West. You'll be looking to make the turn left
at Hall Avenue, which is just before the Car Park. Make that turn and
head straight to the finish.
Author Best - 49.74
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
3. Nakamura SI-7
Start - 9th & Sullivan
End - The Waterfront Plaza
Distance - 1.5 miles
Target Time - 1:00
Route: Follow 9th Street East and then South as it becomes Glancey. Make
sure to use oncoming to keep your boost running. The last turn will
be left onto Andersen which puts you on a straight road to the
finish!
Author Best - 39.98
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
4. Hunter Vegas
Start - 7th & Franke
End - The Wildcats Baseball Stadium
Distance - 1.5 miles
Target Time - 0:50
Route: Another simple route to follow. Take Franke South-East until it
merges into 2nd street and head East. You'll need to make a right
onto Webster, but be careful not to go underground on the Freeway.
After that it's a 1 block dash to the finish line.
Author Best - 36.13
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
5. Krieger Pioneer
Start - Hamilton & 9th
End - The Naval Yard
Distance - 2.5 miles
Target Time - 1:25
Route: Take Hamilton South for over a mile. It will merge into Harber as it
curves around to the West. At this point you can turn left on either
Warren or Shepherd as both end at the South Bay Expressway. Turn
right here and cruise down the Expressway until you hit the finish.
Author Best - 1:02.07
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
6. Nakamura Ikusa GT
Start - 2nd & Glancey
End - The Maplemount Country Club
Distance - 2.2 Miles
Target Time - 1:15
Route: You'll start out going West on 2nd. Take the slight right on to
Franke and follow this North-West all the way until you can turn left on 7th
Street. Take this for a few seconds and then do a right on Lambert before
you reach the tunnel. Once on Lambert it's a drag race to the line so get
boosting!
Author Best - 54.48
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
7. Kitano Hydros Custom
Start - Hubbard & I-88 Section 3 entrance
End - The Wildcats Baseball Stadium
Distance - 2.2 miles
Target Time - 1:05
Route: Take Hubbard South and make a left onto 2nd Street. Follow this all
the way over to Webster and hang a right, again making sure not to end up
driving down onto the Freeway. The only shortcut worth using is on the left
before you take the 2nd Street turn, and simply straightens out the turn you
would make, saving a second at most.
Author Best - 50.57
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
8. Hunter Reliable Custom
Start - Nelson & Uphill
End - The Lone Stallion Ranch
Distance - 3.3 miles
Target Time - 1:35
Route: Drive South on Nelson and get up to full speed. Make a slight right
to head down W. Lake Drive, and take the dirt track shortcut that appears
straight ahead with about 1.9 miles left. This will put you out at the S.
Mountain intersection. Take a right and follow the road around the curve,
before taking the super jump off Rockridge Cliff. That will save you the
most time, and put you down by the lake. Follow the road around to the right
and up to the ranch for the finish!
Author Best - 1:00.68
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
9. Watson R-Turbo Roadster
Start - King & Harber
End - The Maplemount Country Club
Distance - 2.2 miles
Target Time - 1:15
Route: Head North on King from the start, you'll be looking to make a kind
of sharp left on to Franke with about 1.5 miles left. The route is then
identical to #6; do a left on 7th and then a right on Lambert to take you to
the finish. If you want an easier turn off King, take the 3rd Street exit -
it's a slightly longer route but probably a little safer too. Follow it
straight to Lambert and again head straight for the finish.
Author Best - 54.57
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
10. Rossolini LM Classic
Start - Lambert & 2nd
End - The Lone Stallion Ranch
Distance - 2.9 miles
Target Time - 1:25
Route: Take Lambert South and continue on as it curves to the west. Then
either take a left on Hall or S. Rouse until you reach S. Bay Expressway. Do
a right there and then follow the road over the bridge. Make a very slight
left on to S. Mountain and boost through the finish line.
Author Best - 1:02.85
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
11. Hunter Manhattan
Start - Webster & Andersen
End - The Naval Yard
Distance - 4.6 miles
Target Time - 1:20
Route: It will try to start you going West, but turn South on Webster right
away. Follow it as it curves around and becomes Harber. Go past the Auto-
Repair, stay on the left and look for a shortcut that will take you onto
Manners. It's just after the entrance to the I-88 onramps. It should take
you over 2 jumps. As you finish this shortcut there is another shorter one
that will put you out on the South Bay Expressway. At this point you just
need to drive straight to the finish.
Author Best - 1:00.40
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
12. Carson Fastback
Start - Harber Street
End - Lone Stallion Ranch
Distance - 3.3 miles
Target Time - 1:30
Route: Start going West on Harber. Use the 2 shortcuts mentioned above for
the Hunter Manhattan to get you onto S. Bay Expressway. At this point it's
just a very long drag race to the finish. Cross the bridge and make a slight
left onto S. Mountain Drive and you'll be done. Just make sure to use the
oncoming lanes to keep your boost running the whole time.
Author Best - 1:10.18
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
13. Carson Grand Marais
Start - Root & Paradise
End - The Wildcats Stadium
Distance - 1.6 miles
Target Time - 1:05
Route: It will start you facing East, but turn South on Paradise straight
off the bat. With about 1 mile to go, do a slight left at Paradise Square so
you head South-East on Franke. You'll end up going East on 2nd, and from
there you just need to turn right on Webster and drive a block to the finish
Author Best - 43.33 (with a crash)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
14. Montgomery Hyperion
Start - 3rd & Glancey
End - The Country Club
Distance - 2.3 miles
Target Time - 1:15
Route: An easy route. Head North on Glancey, follow it around to the West as
it turns into 9th, and turn right on Lambert when you reach the end of 9th.
Lambert will turn into Newton and send you straight to the finish.

Marked Man [BP2400]
===============================================================================
Marked Man events are a cross between a race and a Road Rage event. You have
to get from point A to point B, but inbetween you'll be getting attacked by 3
(and later 4) aggressive and heavy black versions of the Hunter Citizen. They
will do their best to stop you reaching your destination, and it's up to you to
either outdrive them or simply go where they can't.
There are 15 of these events in total, and as usual they can start at any
intersection on the map, but will only end at one of the 8 compass point finish
lines. This makes knowledge of the shortcuts to those finish lines ideal,
because on the whole the AI cars will not follow you into shortcut areas
(although sometimes they can spawn in them). There is no time limit on these
events, so don't rush, especially in shortcuts where you shouldn't have to
worry about being taken down.
One thing that will be your saviour from time to time in these events is the
ability to use an auto-repair to bring your car back to full "health". This
means you can be taken down more times before the event ends and it can be the
difference between victory or defeat. I will point them out in my routes if
they are nearby, although obviously you can go out of your way to get to them
if you think you need it, just be careful.
Choice of car is important here. Pick something heavy like the Inferno Van and
you will be a harder target to take down, but also slower moving which gives
the AI more chances to try and get at you. They will T-Bone you at
intersections and use the PIT manuever if you go slowly, and once you're
fighting 4 of them off instead of 3, speed and good handling can be just as
important. If you have it unlocked, I use the Carson Thunder Shadow, which has
10 in boost and 7 in strength. Enough speed to get to the finish quickly while
having enough stength to survive on the way.
The routes are listed here in no particular order:
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1. Stampede
Start: 3rd & Webster
End: Lone Stallion Ranch
Route: Start going South on Webster, it will curve West in Harber. Use the
auto-repair on the left if you need it. With about 2.7 miles left
look for a shortcut on your left that will cut onto Manners, it's
just past the entrance to the I-88 onramps. As you finish this
shortcut look for another on the left to take you onto the S. Bay
Expressway. Hug the left wall as you exit this cut for yet another
shortcut that takes you through the Naval Yard. It will put you out
near another auto-repair so use again if needed.
From here take the Expressway onto the bridge, and use the second
jump in the middle to put you on the railroad. From here simply stay
on it all the way to the finish!
Alternate: For an even easier time of things, take the first two shortcuts
mentioned, then look to make a right on Gabriel Avenue. From there
you can get on the railroad and just cruise all the way to Lone
Stallion Ranch from there as the AI cars shouldn't follow you.

Road Rage [BP2500]
===============================================================================
The Road Rage events are something that have appeared in the Burnout series
since Burnout 3, and it has a lot of fans. It encourages you to do the most
aggressive driving you can perform to take down as many AI cars as possible
within a set time limit.
In Paradise City you'll have 16 different Road Rages to attempt, although due
to the open-world nature of the game you can go anywhere you want with them
once they start. AI cars will constantly spawn around you wherever you go so if
you have a favourite place for takedowns you can go there every time (if you
have the time).
The goals you need to achieve are not set per Road Rage, but based on the
number of them that you have done. Your first event will only require you to
get 3 takedowns, but your last will want 25! The base time limit will also rise
as you progress further through the game, but interestingly now you can also
gain an extra 5 seconds for every car you take out. In theory this means you
could go on a single Road Rage forever, but in reality it just means you should
never have to worry about the time limit.
I never timed out in a single Road Rage, the biggest difficulty is probably
ensuring you don't wreck your car too many times before you hit your target.
The actual process of taking down cars is a little easy, they are much more
inclined to swerve into walls and traffic with a sideswipe. They aren't
particularly aggressive either, though they will take each other down.
As with Marked Man, you can use the Auto-Repairs dotted around the city to
bring your car back to full health, although you can only use each one once per
Road Rage event. If you know you crash a lot, make sure you take your routes
past these to avoid missing takedown targets.
The car you choose to use will again make a big difference, not only in terms
of how capable each is in taking down others, but because the game will pit you
against relatively equal opponents. Basically, use a Burnout License car and
you have to take on cars of that level. Use a Class B car and so will the AI.
Use this to your advantage, because slower cars are easier targets, and using a
slower car gives you more reaction time. Obviously an aggression car with a
high strength will help a great deal, regardless of anything else.
As I said, there are 16 events in total, but with no specific routes to take
or specific goals to achieve, I'm just going to list what they're called and
where they are. If anyone thinks I should add some Road Rage specific things
here send me an e-mail!

Road Rules [BP2600]
===============================================================================
Road Rules is the name given to two distinctly different modes of play in
Burnout Paradise. They can be accessed once you've won 4 events offline. As
there are 64 different roads in the game, there are effectively 128 "events" to
do. When you do them for the first time they will add to your percentage
complete, and you can choose to do them whenever you want offline and online as
long as you're Freeburning. They also have a few achievements tied to them and
a couple of Carbon cars for completing all of them, so there's a good reason to
beat them all.
===============================================================================
Road Rules: Time [BP2610]
===============================================================================
Time Road Rules are effectively the time trial mode of this game. Each of the
64 roads has a time set by the developers that you need to beat, and once
you've beaten those you can beat your friends times too.
To access them, you need to press up on the d-pad once or twice so it says
best offline or online time, although you'll want to see offline times when
you're trying to beat the developers. Once this is done, all you need to do to
start is drive from one end of the road to the other as quickly as possible.
In terms of car choice, faster is obviously better. If you can handle the
fastest Speed cars like the PCPD special, use them because they will set the
best times, especially on the shortest roads. On longer roads you may find it
easier to use a fast stunt car like the Montgomery Hawker so you can recover
from crashes more easily.
Another must for the fastest times is getting the biggest run up you can from
either end of the road. The clock starts counting once you turn on to the road
so starting fast can only benefit you. Don't be afraid to crash at the end of a
road either, you wanna be at full speed all the way to the finish and sometimes
crashing is going to happen.
Shortcuts are also important. Almost any shortcut that begins and ends on the
same road will not screw up your times, and if they cut corners or help you
avoid traffic they can save seconds of time. They aren't always practical, so
there can be a lot of trial and error to work out the best route. Choosing
which end of the road to start from goes with this, as it can be easier to
start faster, or hit certain shortcuts.
There are 64 roads to set times on, they are listed here along with the time
you need to beat to "rule" the road offline:

Road Rules: Showtime [BP2620]
===============================================================================
In keeping with the open world theme of Paradise City, Criterion did away with
the standard crash junctions, and for better or worse, added Showtime mode in
its place. With Showtime, you can effectively crash anywhere and any time you
want when not doing an event. Just hold both LB and RB at the same time to
turn your car into what amounts to a giant pinball.
While in Showtime mode you can bounce your car around using the A button to
"Ground Break". Press A while your car is touching the ground and you will be
launched onwards. Your boost bar represents your ability to ground break: as
long as you have boost you can do it, but run out and the show is over. To keep
the bar filled you need to hit as many vehicles as you can.
Each vehicle type is worth differing amounts, usually bigger is better. Buses
also add to your multiplier, which is really the key to the highest scores, and
is unfortunately somewhat random as to when they appear. Every 10 vehicles hit
gives your boost bar a bonus, and hitting specified overhanging signs will give
you $10,000 a time. You will also be rewarded for distanced travelled, $100 for
every yard, which is then multiplied at the end along with the rest of your
score.
Because your boost bar is your lifebar, Aggression cars are the ones to go for
as they have the biggest bars to fill. Just as useful is picking a large car;
the more road you take up the more vehicles you're likely to hit. Also take
advantage of the fact that once you start Showtime, you can go anywhere you can
reach and it will still score you for the road you started on. This is great
for roads that don't see much traffic, but are connected to the main roads like
E. Crawford. I'll note any good examples in the "Notes" section of the table
below.

Discovery [BP3000]
===============================================================================
With a huge open world to explore Criterion have provided players with a lot
of reasons to check out the entire map. There are 570 collectibles split into
Super Jumps, Smashes and Billboards spread through the whole city, along with
35 Drive Thrus and 11 Car Parks. They're worth finding too; you'll get multiple
achievements and cars for finding everything in the game, and learn a lot about
the layout of Paradise City in the meantime.
I've split the Discoveries first by type, and then by the 5 main areas of the
city. Use the BP codes to more quickly find the Super Jumps in Downtown or the
Smashes in White Mountain. Please note that with so many to find and describe
the locations of, the ones you need may not be here to begin with, so be
patient!
===============================================================================
Discovery: Billboards [BP3100]
===============================================================================
There are 120 Billboards spread throughout the city, with between 20 and 30 in
each of the 5 areas. You can check how many you have in each area with the
pause menu. The billboards have the Burnout logo on a firey background, and
should be pretty obvious once you play. Once you've gone through a billboard it
will always look like it's been smashed up, so use that to help you find new
ones to break.
===============================================================================
Billboards : Palm Bay Heights [BP3110]
===============================================================================
1. Location: E. Crawford Drive towards Sullivan
How to Get: Drive West with the traffic. After you go past the construction
site there will be a ramp on the right leading to the billboard
Take it with some speed to crash through it.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
2. Location: Hudson Avenue Car Park
How to Get: There are 3 ramps on the roof. Take the one facing South-East
to break the billboard and land on the Freeway.
3. How to Get: Now take the North-West facing ramp with some speed to hit the
billboard in the air on the other side of the road.
4. How to Get: Finally take the East facing ramp. Follow the road around and
there will be another billboard sitting at the side of the
Freeway.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
5. Location: 9th Street & Hamilton Avenue
How to Get: Head East on 9th, and on the right directly after 9th and
Hamilton intersect will be a smash leading into a hidden path.
Shortly after will be a small jump with a billboard that you
can't miss.
6. How to Get: Continue onwards and go up a ramp onto a high platform. Another
billboard sits here.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
===============================================================================
Billboards : Downtown Paradise [BP3120]
===============================================================================
21. Location: Angus Wharf
| How to Get: Head North on Angus Wharf, and look for the shortcut on the
22. right, opposite the Watt Street turn. Down here are 2 jumps
that take you over containers, and each one has a billboard to
crash through.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
===============================================================================
Billboards : Harbor Town [BP3130]
===============================================================================
51.
===============================================================================
Billboards : White Mountain [BP3140]
===============================================================================
76.
===============================================================================
Billboards : Silver Lake [BP3150]
===============================================================================
101.
===============================================================================
Discovery: Smashes [BP3200]
===============================================================================
In total there's a whopping 400 Smashes to find all over Paradise City, with
anywhere from 50 to 90 in each area. You can check how many you have in each
area with the pause menu. With there being so many, this is probably the
hardest discoverable to find every one of. They are represented by multiple
black and yellow chain link fences that say "Private Property". Once you've
gone through a Smash, it will no longer have a full fence in front of it, to
let you know you've earned it already.
I have grouped some of the Smashes together because the methods to get them
are identical. A lot of shortcuts have a smash at each end, so it's easier to
list both together. My "How to Get" method is not the only way to reach each
smash, so if you're unsure if you've got a particular one or not just follow my
directions so you know for certain.
===============================================================================
Smashes : Palm Bay Heights [BP3210]
===============================================================================
1. Location: Hudson Avenue Car Park
How to Get: Simply enter the Car Park.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
2. Location: Newton Drive/E. Crawford Drive
| How to Get: Drive up the right side of the half loop of Newton Drive and
3. look right for a smash that takes you on a dirt road through a
tunnel and out through another smash onto the boardwalk on
E. Crawford.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
4. Location: 9th Street & Hamilton Avenue
| How to Get: Head East on 9th, and on the right directly after 9th and
5. Hamilton intersect will be a smash leading into a hidden path.
Follow this path all the way to the end and another smash leads
you out onto 9th & Paradise.
6. Location: 9th Street
How to Get: There is another smash to take you on the path mentioned above.
The smash sits halfway between Nakamura and Sullivan, on the
right side of 9th if you drive East.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
7. Location: Moore Avenue/9th Street & Sullivan Avenue
| How to Get: These 2 smashes connect Moore to Sullivan. Face North-East at
8. the junction of 9th and Sullivan and you will see the first.
Drive through the shortcut to hit the other.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
9. Location: 9th Street/Railroad Tracks
| How to Get: Drive West on 9th, and do a left onto the Railroad just before
12. you have to turn onto Lambert. The first smash is a little way
down at the entrance to a tunnel. The second is at the exit of
the same tunnel. Stay on the tracks for a long time, until you
are forced to leave them by way of another smash. Do a quick
180 when you hit that smash and there will be another right in
front of you.
13. Location: 7th Street
| How to Get: These 2 smashes are actually on the road above Smash #10. Head
14. East on the 7th that puts you with same direction traffic. Next
to the record store with the giant guitar are 2 smashes with a
wall splitting them.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
===============================================================================
Smashes : Downtown Paradise [BP3220]
===============================================================================
51. Location: E. Crawford Drive/Angus Wharf
| How to Get: Drive East on Crawford, and as you reach the curve by the
54. Coastguard HQ you will see 3 possible smashes to hit. Take the
one on the left to go past the lighthouse. You'll hit a 2nd
soon after, and a 3rd after that before reaching some jumps.
Finally a 4th smash will take you back onto Angus Wharf.
55. Location: E. Crawford Drive/Angus Wharf
| How to Get: Instead of taking the leftmost smash above, take the middle
56. one instead. There's a 2nd smash part of the way through the
shortcut, the other you should have already hit previously.
57. Location: E. Crawford Drive/Angus Wharf
| How to Get: Finally, take the right of the 3 smashes available. This will
58. take you through a different shortcut, but atfer hitting a 2nd
smash still dumps you out on Angus Wharf.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
59. Location: Angus Wharf/Watt Street
| How to Get: Just south of the Auto-Repair on Angus Wharf and before you
60. reach Watt is a shortcut that connects the two roads, and has a
Smash at each end between two rows of containers.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
61. Location: E. Crawford Drive Junk Yard
| How to Get: Situate your car as if it was leaving the Junk Yard on E.
62. Crawford heading South. In front of you should be a smash
hiding a shortcut between rows of containers. At the other end
of the shortcut is another smash and the Freeway.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
===============================================================================
Smashes : Harbor Town [BP3230]
===============================================================================
131.
===============================================================================
Smashes : White Mountain [BP3240]
===============================================================================
221.
===============================================================================
Smashes : Silver Lake [BP3250]
===============================================================================
311.
===============================================================================
Discovery: Super Jumps [BP3300]
===============================================================================
In total there are 50 Super Jumps to find, 10 in each area. These jumps are
marked by flashing yellow traffic cones, and some are the biggest jumps in the
game and great for stunts. You can check how many you have in each area with
the pause menu.
===============================================================================
Super Jumps : Palm Bay Heights [BP3310]
===============================================================================
1. Location: E. Crawford Drive
How to Get: Drive West along the beach. The jump is situated leading you
into the construction site in the middle of the road. You don't
need to jump into the site to make the jump, just don't crash.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
2. Location: E. Crawford Drive
How to Get: Continue on West from jump #1 and drop down onto the boardwalk
under the billboard on the right. Take the first ramp there and
land the jump. Can be done from either side but only counts for
one jump.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
3. Location: Railroad between Hamilton and Lambert
How to Get: Turn off E. Crawford onto Hamilton and look for an entrance to
the railroad tracks on the right. Head under the billboard and
look for the thin ramp marked with traffic cones that will lead
you onto the Freeway. Just drive up this ramp to make it count.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
4. Location: I-88 Section 2
How to Get: Use Jump #3 to get on the Freeway. Head forward enough until
you can get onto the opposite lanes of the Freeway and turn
around. In front of you should be a small jump that will take
you back over the Freeway again.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
5. Location: Paradise Avenue
How to Get: At the North end of this road is a half raised bridge. Make the
jump over the gap to complete. Simple.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
6. Location: 7th Street & Paradise Avenue
How to Get: Head west with the traffic on 7th. As you're about to head
under Paradise, there will be a marked ramp in the middle of
the 4 lanes. Take this jump onto or over Paradise.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
7. Location: 7th Street & Root Avenue
How to Get: This time, head west on 7th in *oncoming* traffic. As you're
about to pass under Root Avenue there will again be a marked
ramp in the middle of the 4 lanes of traffic. Jump onto or over
Root to add this to your total.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
8. Location: 7th Street & Lambert Parkway
How to Get: Drive west on 7th with the traffic, as you cross over Lambert
there is a dirt ramp just to the right of the road marked with
the usual flashing traffic cones. Make this jump over the pond
to complete it.

Online Mode [BP4000]
===============================================================================
Bearing some similarities to the online mode of Test Drive Unlimited, the
Online Mode in Burnout Paradise is as much a social thing as it is about
competition. If you want to race competitively you can do that, and if you want
to co-operate with others to beat challenges you can do that too. Of course the
open world structure means you can do whatever you want too, it's really down
to you.
I will cover the main areas of the online game here.
===============================================================================
Today's Best [BP4100]
===============================================================================
Today's Best is something that will always appear in the top right hand corner
of the screen whenever you Freeburn online. It tracks 9 different statistics
for each player in the game and summarises who's ahead overall. There is an
achievement for being ahead in 6 out of 9 categories in an 8 player game, so it
is worth spending some time on, and it's pretty good for something to fill in
any lulls in the action. The 9 categories tracked are:
Drift: Unfortunately it's too easy to do donuts, which makes this easy to
get a very high number on. Works in any car.
Oncoming: The easiest place to do this is on the freeway as it does loop all
around the city. You can go quite slowly so again it's far too easy to
get a very high number without too much effort.
Flatspin: I find these a lot of fun to do. E-brake and spin your car off any
split ramp to rack up a big number. The ramps on the beach are my jump
of choice. If you beat 832 degrees you're doing as well as me.
Barrel Rolls: Usually this record gets tied due to the small numbers involved.
3 is my max, done using the massive ramp into the Quarry and the super
jump from Read Lane onto the railroad. A good technique can make a
bigger difference than a high speed, so take your time.
Power Parking: Gets tied all the time due to the obvious max. 100% will be
yours if you E-brake and 180 into a gap between two parked cars and
line yourself up perfectly parallel to the curb. Gets easier with time.
Airtime: This is *not* your best air from one jump, but the best total air
from a series of jumps done in sequence. Over 20 seconds is possible
using the series of ramps along the pier, beach and Angus Wharf areas.
Make sure not to crash until the game records your total otherwise you
lose everything. Best done in a stunt car for the easy boosting.
Near Misses: Another record that is cheapened by the fact that you can simply
run back and forth past parked cars to get huge totals. If you do it
legitimately, over 20 is pretty good.
Jump Distance: The best jump distances are going to be earned in 1 or 2
different places: the Quarry jump and the Read Lane jump. Over 200yds
is possible in a fast car
Burnouts: This is the one statistic tracked that requires you to be in a
specific car type: Speed cars. Chain burnouts by constantly boosting
and driving dangerously, oncoming traffic is a great help here. Note
that if you crash it won't record your burnout, so stop boosting when
your chain is high enough.
===============================================================================
Online Road Rules [BP4200]
===============================================================================
Doing Road Rules online is not that different from doing it offline. You are
still able to beat the offline records as well as online, but when you're in an
online game you can also set times and Showtime scores against those in the
game with you, regardless of them being on your XBL friends list. These times
are short-term, you won't see them once you leave the game unless you set a
personal record, and the people you played with won't see them unless they're
your XBL friends. If you're playing against strangers this can be a little
worthless, but against friends it can be great to set times together in the
same room. It's down to you to make whatever you want out of it.
===============================================================================
Freeburn Challenges [BP4300]
===============================================================================
The Freeburn Challenges make up the largest part of the social aspect to
Burnout Paradise. These are collaborative challenges that require you to work
with 1-7 other people to beat tasks set by the developers. There are 350 in
total, 50 for each number of players between 2 and 8, as well as 4 achievements
tied to their completion.
The good news is that they can be a lot of fun when done with friends as the
challenges can create a sense of camaraderie between players as you work to
beat them. The bad news is that there are a lot of repeats, and you will find
that you end up doing the same challenge 5 or 6 times with differing amounts of
people. Also, all it takes is one idiot to make doing them impossible, which is
just another reason to play with friends when you can.
I shall list all 350 Challenges here, split by number of players, and I will
include notes for the ones that may not be entirely self explanatory as there
are some that are either vague or just not that easy. Please e-mail me if you
think a challenges needs a note as things obvious to me aren't obvious to
others, and vice-versa.

===============================================================================
Achievements [BPACHV]
===============================================================================
There are 50 achievements in the game that total up to 1000 gamerscore. Some
can be earned offline and some have to be earned online; these are split into
groups accordingly.
===============================================================================
Offline Achievements [BPOFFL]
===============================================================================
1. Lookin' Good - 5 Points
Repaired your first wrecked car
How to get: drive through the nearest auto-repair and you're done.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
2. Misdemeanor - 10 points
5 Billboards collected
How to get: just explore, it shouldn't take long at all.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
3. Off the Beaten Path - 10 points
25 Smashes collected
How to get: just like billboards, some quick exploration will rack these up.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
4. Parallel Park - 20 points
Power Park achieved with a 100% rating
How to get: E-brake your car and 180 into the space between two parked cars.
100% requires you to be lined up perfectly, which can take some practice but is
easy to get the hang of.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
5. Bottom of the Class - 20 points
Got your D Class License
How to get: win the grand sum of 2 single player events. Easy.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
6. Duckin' and Weavin' - 10 points
Won a Marked man without being taken down
How to get: As it sounds, best done early in the game when the AI cars are less
aggressive. Note that you can crash yourself and still get this achievement in
the same event.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
7. Learning to Fly - 10 points
Successfully landed 5 Superjumps
How to get: Again very easy to get with some exploration. Look for the flashing
yellow traffic cones.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
8. Spinnin' Around - 10 points
Got your first 360 Flatspin
How to get: Flatspin by E-braking your car off ramps sideways. Get a 360 at
somewhere like the quarry, the Read Lane superjump or on Big Surf Beach.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
9. Great Start - 10 points
Won a race
How to get: win a race offline. Any of the early races will be easily winnable
as long as you don't get lost.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
10. Underachiever - 30 points
Got your C class license
How to get: Having got the D license, win another 7 events.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
11. Rampage! - 20 points
Got a Takedown Rampage
How to get: Similarly to previous Burnout games, score consecutive takedowns in
a Road Rage event without crashing or going too long without a takedown. 5 is a
Frenzy, and 10 will be the Rampage. Generally easier in a slower car because
the other cars will be equally slow, which makes taking them down more
straightforward.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
12. Watt? - 10 points
Time Road Rule beaten on Watt St
How to get: Press up on the d-pad to enable Road Rules, and drive from one end
of Watt Street to the other in under 5.8 seconds. Build up speed before you
reach the road so you can blitz down it at maximum velocity. Use a stunt car
with 4 or 5 in boost and you should have no problems.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
13. Daredevil - 25 points
Land a 2 barrel roll jump
How to get: There are plenty of ramps where this can be done. The one leading
into the Quarry is an easy option, as is the split ramp on Read Lane. Any light
stunt car should be fine, speed isn't as important as good technique. Try for 3
or more if this seems easy!
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
14. Millionaire's Club - 25 points
Scored over 1,000,000 in Stunt Run
How to get: sounds like a big number, but a large multiplier will make all the
difference. I used the series of ramps that run along Big Surf Beach and East
Crawford and into the back of Angus Wharf. Nail all of those jumps and you'll
have multiple billboard and air time multipliers. Throw in some flatspins or a
barrel roll and a x15 multiplier isn't hard to get with practice. Remember to
hit every ramp in both directions to eke out every point.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
15. Perfect Rage - 5 points
Got 10 Takedowns in Road Rage without wrecking
How to get: As usual, easier in slower cars. Pick the heaviest aggression car
you have to minimise your chances of crashing and to maximise your damage to
other cars. Avoid any silly mistakes and take your time.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
16. Must Try Harder - 40 points
Got your B Class License
How to get: From your C class license, win another 15 events. This won't be
enough events to force you into any variety you're not fond of, so getting this
far should be a breeze.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
17. It's Showtime - 10 points
Showtime Road Rule beaten on East Crawford Drive
How to get: Get in your biggest aggression car. Press up on the d-pad 3 times
until it shows "Biggest Offline Crash". Hit both buffers at the same time to
start showtime mode. The target is $1.5 million, one of the highest in the
game, so hit every bus in sight while keeping both directions of traffic
clogged up. Ultimately the buses make the biggest difference, but keep an eye
on distance traveled as that can add a tidy sum to your overall score with a
good multiplier.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
18. Flying Colors - 50 points
Got your A Class License
How to get: Win an additional 26 events after earning your B license. Bearing
in mind that event wins reset every license upgrade, you could in theory just
redo your favourite events from the B license and you'd be most of the way
there. If you haven't practiced some of your less favoured event types, now's
the time to try them out as things only get harder.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
19. Rising From the Ashes - 10 points
Repaired your car at critical damage in a Road Rage event
How to get: it's fairly easy to manufacture this one. Simply drive to an
auto-repair, crash around it until you're at critical damage and repair
yourself. You don't need to win the road rage or even get a single takedown.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
20. Supercharged - 20 points
Won 25 Burning Routes
How to get: ...win 25 burning routes. This one actually requires some effort,
and ultimately the best way to win is to learn the routes you take.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
21. Paradise Won - 60 points
Won your Burnout Driving License
How to get: To get this far you'll have to have won 90 events total, and 40
since earning your A class license. By this point you'll need to be pretty good
at some event types, and if you haven't done all the available Burning Routes
now is a good time, as it will create less work for you getting the Burnout
Elite license.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
22. Explorer - 10 points
Found all events
How to get: Can be a little tricky. Use your map to drive to any intersection
that doesn't have an event showing, and drive up and down the freeway in both
directions. Note that you'll only discover events while in offline mode and not
currently be doing an event.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
23. Speed King - 20 points
Set a Time Road Rule on every road
How to get: Press up on the D-Pad once to show best Offline time, and beat it
for every road. In the faster cars almost all the targets can be beaten with
minimal crashing and boosting. Use the map to check for the ones you're
missing. You'll pick up a car for this too so it's a worthy achievement to get.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
24. The Show Must Go on - 20 points
Got a x10 multiplier in Showtime
How to get: x10 multiplier means 10 buses. 10 buses means sticking to the
busier roads Downtown, or looking for parked ones such as the 3 on Chubb Lane.
Due to the randomness of buses, this might take a few tries, but you can work
on completing every Showtime at the same time too.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
25. Car in a China Shop - 20 points
You got 500 Takedowns (online and offline)
How to get: This will be earned naturally through the course of the game,
usually it will be down to big Road Rage scores.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
26. All Pimped Out - 10 points
Won all Burning Routes
How to get: won't be achievable until very late in the game; the last car with
a Route is unlocked after winning 168 events! The earlier routes are usually
easier, but now you have to do them all anyway. Just keep track of them as you
go so none get forgotten. In total you'll have 35 to beat.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
27. Elite - 70 points
Won your Burnout Elite license
How to get: the number of event required will vary depending on how many
burning routes you do before you get your Burnout License, as they don't reset
after each new license like other events do. I had to do 93 events to go from
Burnout to Elite, but it can be as high as 120 if you haven't done any Burning
Routes. This achievement will probably make you wish there was a retry button
if you didn't already. Earn it though and you get a shiny gold paint finish for
your cars.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
28. Paid and Displayed - 20 points
Found all Car Parks
How to get: There are 11 to find, all in the eastern half of the map.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
29. Shopaholic - 10 points
Found all Drive Thrus and Car Parks
How to get: As well as the Car Parks, find all 35 Drive Thru locations.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
30. Flying High - 20 points
Successfully land all superjumps
How to get: Find and make all 50 jumps. Some are easy finds, and some are easy
jumps, but not all of them will be. Explore the city in a fast car so you don't
miss out.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
31. Boosting Around the World - 25 points
Got a 20x Boost Chain
How to get: the hard way is to take a speed car into oncoming traffic on the
freeway and survive. My way was to loop around the Country Club, drifting and
going in oncoming as much as possible. Minimum traffic and easily maintained
boost makes this a lot easier than it could be. Stick to your slowest speed car
for an even easier time.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
32. Crashin' All Over The World - 20 points
Showtime Road Rule set on every road
How to get: As it sounds, beat the target for each of the 64 roads. For the
smaller and quieter roads, do your best to start as close to a main road as
possible and Ground Break your way there. Most targets can be comfortably
beaten once you get 2 or 3 buses, so keep your eyes peeled.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
33. Bustin' Out - 20 points
Collected all Billboards
How to get: There are 120 in total, general exploration will find many, look
out for locations for the rest when this FAQ is complete.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
34. Totally Smashed - 20 points
Collected all smashes
How to get: If 120 billboards weren't tough, 400 smashes definitely is.
Exploring every nook and cranny of the map is a must, driving up and down
every road in each direction will help a lot too. For those last few you can't
find look for them in this FAQ when it's complete.

Online Achievements [BPONLN]
===============================================================================
35. Just for Pics - 10 points
Made your first online rival
How to get: Hop online and take down someone or be taken down by someone.
Simple.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
36. Join the Party - 10 points
Completed 1 online challenge
How to get: Do it with friends or strangers, either way complete a single
freeburn challenge.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
37. Happy Snapper - 10 points
Sent 5 camera shots
How to get: obviously needs an Xbox Live Vision Camera. Get taken down 5 times
and this achievement is complete.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
38. Party Crasher - 15 points
Completed 25 online challenges
How to get: Easier with friends but achievable with others too, complete any 25
of the 350 available challenges. Many of the early ones are as simple as
boosting once or doing a drift so this achievement shouldn't take long.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
39. Online Racer - 10 points
Completed an online race
How to get: join someone elses or host one yourself, just finish any race
online.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
40. Criterion Fever - 20 points
Caught Criterion Fever
How to get: A viral achievement that involves taking down someone who has the
"Fever". In theory this would be people from Criterion playing online
specifically for this purpose, but by the time you read this most regulars
online will have it. Ask around and I'm sure you'll find someone to take down.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
41. Notorious - 20 points
Sent 50 Camera Shots
How to get: Another camera based achievement. Play online enough to win a few
races and get taken down a few times and this will be yours.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
42. First Win - 10 points
Won an 8 player online race
How to get: Just like winning an offline race, but with real people. Get out
ahead early and don't crash and you're golden.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
43. Burnout Skills - 30 points
In 8 player online Freeburn led 6 of the Today's Best Scores
How to get: See earlier in the guide for what scores you're looking to achieve
and get ahead in as many as possible.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
44. Online Champion - 20 points
Won 10 online races
How to get: If you can win online once, you can do it 10 times. Do it with
friends if you want to make life easier.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
45. Online and Kicking - 30 points
Completed 20 online events
How to get: By events they really mean races. Finish 20 races and it's done.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
46. Firestarter - 20 points
Made 50 online rivals
How to get: Take down or get taken down by 50 different people. Hop in and out
of online games taking down a few people each time to earn this quickly and
easily.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
47. Hotshots - 20 points
Got 50 Snapshots in your Lineup
How to get: Not as simple as it sounds. The lineup holds 20 snapshots in each
of 4 different areas. 20 for race winners, 20 for race takedowns. 20 for
Freeburn takedowns and 20 for those people who beat your Road Rules scores.
Race winners and Freeburn takedowns are the easy ones, race enough and you'll
pick up the 10 more that you need.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
48. Block Party - 35 points
Completed 2 whole sections of online Challenges (excluding PDLC)
How to get: This I found was easiest to do using the 2 and 3 player challenges,
as obviously less things can go wrong. By far they are simpler when done with
friends/spouses/siblings. Generally most don't require anything but a decent
stunt car and the ability to find a dot on the map, but watch out for the odd
tricky one like the barrel rolls through the fuselage at the airfield.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
49. Party Animal - 25 points
Completed 250 online Challenges
How to get: If you did Block Party first you'll have at least 100. Either way,
as usual, this is ridiculously easier with like-minded friends, especially when
about half of the challenges don't require much more than drifting or boosting
or near misses in a specific area. If you don't have good friends, expect life
to be a little harder.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
50. Criterion Elite - 20 points
Got your Elite License, won every event, found all discoverables and beat every
Road Rule
How to get: The description sums things up nicely. Get your Burnout Elite
license then do every Time and Showtime Road Rule for every road, find 120
billboards, 400 smashes, 50 superjumps, 35 drive thrus and 11 car parks. You
also need the Block Party achievement, which is why this is under online
achievements. Do all of this and you will have 100% completion and a platinum
paint finish for your cars.

Music [BPSONG]
===============================================================================
Criterion took an unusual step with the music in this game, by not only
including their usual selection of licensed tracks but also throwing in the
original in-house compositions used in Burnouts 1 through 3. As usual, you can
turn any songs off you don't want to hear, or have them only play while doing
Events or in Freeburn.
There are a total of 70 in-game tracks, as well as a selection of classical
music that will play if you let the game idle. The in-game music is as follows:

If you're really not a fan of the music in the game you can use custom
soundtracks with the 360 version. You can use music on the HDD, on compatible
mp3 players or stream it from a Windows Media Center PC. Personally I'm a fan
of most of the music in the game but it's nice to have the option for some
variety.

Frequently Asked Questions [BPWHAT]
===============================================================================
Q. Where is X road?
A. Hit the back button to bring up the map, and choose to view Road Rules
events. Every road will be labelled fairly clearly.
Q. Why can't I retry/warp to events/pick my car whenever I want?
A. Criterion wanted to create a seamless world that took you out of the game
as little as possible. Although they achieved that pretty well it's not a
popular decision. It's not likely to get changed so either suck it up or
move on.
Q. Why are some street signs green/red/silver/gold?
A. They will be green when driving around normally. If you view a best offline
time or showtime score they will be red if you've not set a score, silver
if you've set one or the other, and gold if you have both. View a best
online time and they will be red if you're being beaten, silver if you have
one online record and gold if you have both.
Q. Hey hey you you how do I turn off this damned song?
A. Pause the game, press RB to get to the "Under The Hood" menu and select EA
Trax. Find the song you're after and press right on the D-Pad until it says
"Don't Play".
Q. Can I customise my car?
A. No, unless you mean different paint jobs. There's enough variety in the 80
cars that you should be able to find one that suits every task, and as DJ
Atomika says, you can always customise your friends car by taking them down
into a wall.
Q. Is there any offline multiplayer?
A. Again no, there's no split-screen options here. Criterion wanted the game
to run at 60fps at all times and a split-screen option would've compromised
that. Also an unpopular choice with some people it seems, and also not very
likely at all that it will show up in this game in the future.
Q. Will there be Downloadable Content?
A. Yes. Criterion haven't confirmed what it is yet, but sensible bets would be
more challenges, more cars, perhaps more game modes and maybe additional
areas to drive in. Of course, being published by EA, it could just be 400
points to unlock all the cars for you...

Credits [BPCRED]
===============================================================================
I have a few people to thank here for various reasons. Firstly my biggest
thanks goes to my wife, not only for being the "Best Wife Ever"(tm) but also
for helping me beat Freeburn Challenges and find those crafty Smashes.
Thanks also to Jarle, Salty, Chuck, Scott, Dan, Jesse and anyone else that did
the Freeburn Challenges with me, I'll try not to beat the next Burnout so
quickly. ;)
Thanks to Ange Alexiel for the PAL car codes, much appreciated.
Of course Criterion get thanks for creating the excellent Burnout series. I've
poured hundreds upon hundreds of hours into all of the games and have yet to be
disappointed. Here's to Burnout 6!
