ABOUT THIS FAQ {A0001}
======================
I never meant to write a FAQ for Zoo Keeper 2 DS, not when I first began
playing it. I was going to review the game and that was going to be the end
of it, only I started to get somewhat addicted and some of the areas started
to challenge me a bit. I figured there would be other people out there like
me who might be happy for assistance (particularly in the final areas), so I
started writing this FAQ most of the way through the campaign mode. Then I
went back through and re-played the early areas so that I could be sure to
provide accurate strategies for them, as needed.
What you'll find in this FAQ isn't a comprehensive outline of every available
strategy. The beauty of this game is that even within the defined
objectives, there are so many ways you might play. What I am providing
instead of an exhaustive listing of all options is a more precise record of
strategies that work for me and seem generally effective. I'll start with
general tips to keep in mind as you play the game--something you might want
to look at first if you're just in the mood for basic support--and then move
onto a walkthrough of the mission-based campaign mode. Then after that, I'll
finish up with information about the animal breeds and awards available in
the game and some frequently asked questions (this is a FAQ, after all) and
some information about things to keep in mind before contacting me.
Also, keep in mind that this isn't a review of the game. I tell you what
works well throughout, but I'm not going to cram it with editorial comments.
If you want to know what I thought of the game, read my review:
http://www.honestgamers.com/systems/content.php?review_id=6795&platform=DS&ab
r=DS&gametitle=Zoo+Tycoon+2+DS
I hope that you find this document useful and that you enjoy the game as much
as I have. Be sure to watch HonestGamers.com for my eventual review, which
should be up within a few days (and quite possibly is up already by the time
you read this). And now, on with the strategies...
========================
GENERAL POINTERS {A0002}
========================
Zoo Tycoon 2 DS is a fairly simple game, once you settle on a few techniques.
This section will give general pointers that should help you to go far within
the game.
* Build cages quickly and efficiently. Immediately after starting, you
should determine where to set up a cage or two, and then you should put in
some animals. This is the fastest way to boost your zoo ranking so that you
can take advantage of other options, something you'll want to do whether
playing in freeform mode or completing campaigns.
* Use your maintenance staff well. The most important staff person is the
general zookeeper. You should place one within a cage whenever you have
animals there, since this wonderful individual will help take care of
animals. If you don't have one positioned, that task falls to you (something
you can't possibly keep up with alongside your numerous other duties).
* Don't waste money on too many of a given breed. Unless you're in campaign
mode and it specifically says to do so, don't place more than one or two
males and one or two females within a given exhibit. The additional animals
don't have any serious benefits, and you can get more animals in each exhibit
just by letting a male and female breed and produce offspring.
* Keep your animals happy in their biomes from day one. The tricks here are
to instantly place the animal's favored soil, such as Sahara or tundra turf.
Then add in a dwelling place (if that animal likes one) and a play toy (if
appropriate). Next, add a patch or two of water and then possibly some
shrubbery. Some animals like less of this than others, but in general the
above works about right. Finally, make sure that you go in zookeeper mode
immediately after placing animals and play the game that will improve their
mood. It's the number-tapping one. If you do this with each new animal you
place, you'll improve their attitude and people will be happier with the
exhibits.
* Research often. As soon as your zoo hits three stars, make sure that
you're investigating new breeds of animal. It's also immediately worth
investing in more buildings. Investigating structures allows you to build a
compost area (for some extra revenue) and a better eatery, both worthwhile.
As far as your maintenance people go, it's usually worth researching three
times, so that they become better at animal husbandry. Once you have
numerous breeds established with well-educated workers, you can sell young
animals born in captivity to earn a little extra money (or free them into the
wild to boost your zoo's rating).
Keep the above strategies in mind at all times and you'll have little trouble
meeting any of the challenges the game throws your direction.

TUTORIAL: CONTROL TECHNIQUES {C0101}
====================================
Description: "Start learning the basics of Zoo Tycoon 2 with this guided
tutorial. Then move on to construction techniques and more!"
Biome: Grassland
Map Size: Small
Start Casth: $10,000
Difficulty: Very Easy
Bonus: None
This stage is just getting you familiar with the way the game operates. You
should try to complete it without any of the notes below, though of course
they're available to reference if you get stuck.
1. Touch the screen as indicated by the arrow.
This step is just acquainting you with the menus available to you. Along the
left side of the screen, there are a bunch of icons you'll use extensively
throughout the game. A white arrow will hover over one of them. Tap that
icon and it will then point to the next one down the list. Keep tapping them
until the camera icon on the bottom extends a menu with a magnifying glass.
Tap it with your stylus, as well, then the yellow arrow twice to rotate the
zoo. Now look to the upper right corner of the screen, where the white arrow
is now pointing at an icon of a hand. Tap it twice.
2. Scrolling the screen allows you to check all the locations in your zoo.
Touch the screen with the stylus and drag it in the direction you want to
view.
As the text in the gray box instructs you, for this step you'll want to
scroll the screen using your stylus. Tap in the green grid area with your
stylus and drag it a bit in each direction (or in a small circle). That will
complete this objective.
3. There are two more camera positions you can use. Touch the camera icon to
open the camera window. Then touch the mangifying glass and the rotate icon.
Touch the camera icon on the bottom of the list of icons along the left side,
then tap the magnifying glass and next the yellow arrow that extended outward
from the icon once you touched it. Finally, tap the camera again to collapse
the menu.
4. The bulldozer icon allows you to demolish objects in your zoo. Delete all
of the trees and rocks from the zoo.
To remove debris, touch the bulldozer menu along the left side (three icons
up from the bottom of the screen), then touch a rock or tree. Tap the green
arrow that appears to the right to confirm the deletion. Now repeat this
process for every rock and tree, scrolling around the map using your stylus
or the d-pad buttons located to the left of your screen on your DS unit (I
prefer the d-pad myself, and you'll probably find that the game works best
for you if you immediately grow accustomed to using it for navigation). When
you've completely removed the rocks and trees, that's the first tutorial
stage complete!

Description: "Take what you've learned and go a step further in this second
part of the tutorial!"
Biome: Grassland
Map Size: Small
Start Casth: $10,000
Difficulty: Very Easy

A lot of what you'll learn in this part of the tutorial will come in handy
every minute during the creation of your eventual zoo, whether here in the
'Campaign' mode or just in the freeform experience. Pay close attention.
1. Touch the switch modes icon two times.
The upper left icon on your screen is the switch modes icon. Tap it twice.
2. Select the Asphalt Path and lay a section of path from the front gate to
the back of the zoo.
The second icon down along the left side of the screen, called the 'ladnscape
icon' in the game, allows you to lay a path. Tap it, then the second icon
from the left from the four at the bottom of the screen (you should notice a
white arrow hovering over it). Now tap the first of the four options that
appear, which is the asphalt path (again, a white arrow will be hovering over
it). Lay a straight path from the entrance of the zoo to its back side on
the grid.
When the path reaches the wall, tap the red arrow on the lower right side
of the screen to back out of the path-building utility and to complete this
objective.
3. Touch the landscape icon. Touch the foliage icon. Place three kinds of
foliage.
Touch the second icon along the left side of the screen again (remember, it's
called the 'landscape icon') and then the third square from the left near the
bottom of the screen (a white arrow is hovering over it). You'll now be
presented with four types of foliage. Tap one, then tap the screen in the
place where you wish to position it and the green arrow to confirm. Repeat
the process for two more foliage types. When that is done, click on the red
'X' in the lower right corner of the screen to exit out of landscape mode.
4. Let's place a restroom in the zoo and rotate it completely around one
time. After you've done that, touch the checkmark and complete the purchase.
Touch the fourth icon down along the left menu. This brings up a list of
available buildings. The second one from the left (out of four options that
appear) is the restroom. You'll see a white arrow hovering over it. Tap it
and the restroom can be placed where you choose. Position it near a path,
then look to the three icons that should be waiting along the right side of
the screen. There's a blue box with a circular arrow in it. Tap that four
times, then tap the green arrow just below it to complete the objective.

This final tutorial area gives you a taste of adding cages and animals, then
customizing them to suit their inhabitants. You should be very familiar with
this process before you spend much time with the later areas of the game, and
can check back here if you ever forget the crucial basics.
1. Create a zebra exhibit.
White arrows will walk you through this process. Start by tapping the
landscape icon (second down from the top on the list of icons on the left),
then the chain link fence icon (leftmost of the four available options that
appear near the bottom of the screen). Now it's time to place your cage.
This must be 4x4 spaces or larger. Create such a space by pointing to a
green area on the map and dragging the stylus so that it marks out a 4x4
space (if you need more room as you work, remember that you can use the d-pad
to move the camera). When your space is acceptable, it will turn turquoise
and flash. A green arrow will appear as one of two icons to the right, so
tap it to confirm your cage. Now tap the red 'X' in the lower right corner
to exit the landscape mode.
Next, it's time to place the animal. Tap the third icon down from the top of
the screen, along the left side. This will produce a list of animals you can
purchaes, near the bottom of the screen. The zebra is the right-most of
these animals. Tap on him, then tap a space within the cage you created on
the map. Now tap the red 'X' in the lower right corner of the screen.
2. The zebra will not be happy unless we modify its exhibit. Place the
zebras preferred items and increase its happiness level to 70% to clear.
Tap on the zebra that is prancing in its cage. This brings up the zookeeper
mode for that animal. Near the lower right corner is a yellow circle with a
blue question mark inside. Tap that, then you'll see a list of the animal's
favorite elements. The arrow points to the sahara soil, so go ahead and tap
on that. Now, a new menu appears with that soil highlighted. Point on it to
indicate that you wish to place some of that soil, then spread it out
throughout the zebra's cage. Now you can press the red 'X' button with your
stylus to exit out. Return to the zookeeper mode for the zebra by tapping it
again, and go through the process adding various other elements to keep the
animal happy. Placing too many items will actually make the animal unhappy,
so be sure to add only a few elements. You can check the status of the
animal's current happiness by entering zookeeper mode and looking at the
meter just below the picture of the animal.
To really make the animal happy right now, you should enter zookeeper mode
and then tap the picture of the zebra, which brings up a list of mini-games
you can play. Completing these will improve its condition in a few key areas
and will allow you to pass the objective. There are on-screen directions on
how to play each game and no tips are really necessary.
3. Place a donations box.
This step is easy. Just tap the fourth icon from the top of the screen,
along the list of icons. Now you'll see three categories of buildings you
can add. The icon you want to tap now is the middle of those three, which
should currently have a white arrow hovering over it. Tap that and you'll
see four options. The donation box (with a white arrow to mark it) is the
one on the far left. Tap it, then tap the place on the map next to the zebra
cage and the red brick pathway where you wish to place it. Now tap the green
checkmark along the right side of the screen to confirm, then the red check
box on the lower right side of the screen to exit out of the mode and
complete the objective.
4. Go to Zookeeper Mode.
Touch the zebra on the map, then tap the icon of the animal that appears on
the Zookeeper screen. You can play the mini-games again, or you can exit out
of the mode by tapping the red arrow on the lower right side of the screen.
Objective and tutorials complete!

ZOOKEEPER IN TRAINING: NEW ANIMAL ARRIVALS {C0201}
==================================================
Description: "You have a great opportunity to take over a small zoo, but you
need to prove that you understand that animals have individual biome needs."
Biome: Grassland
Map Size: Medium
Start Casth: $100,000
Difficulty: Easy
Bonus: Marine Trainer
This first real stage shouldn't prove difficult unless you're grappling with
the controls. If you're new to the game, I recommend checking out my general
tips section (ahead of this campaign walkthrough section) to get some useful
pointers on navigating the game and general strategies. Otherwise, start
reading below.
1. Create exhibits for three different kinds of animals.
Start by creating four cages (even though the objective is only for three,
it's easier to set up four because of the second objective that's coming in a
few moments), 4x4 in size. Just use the cheapest materials. Place
zookeepers in each one, then a male and a female of the animal type you
choose. The easiest thing to do is to use the moose, camel, flamingo and
zebra breeds. When they're all placed, that's the first objective completed.
2. Create four exhibits with a popularity of three stars or more.
With your animals and zookeepers placed, most of the work for this objective
is done. Just head back through and set up the biomes to match the nature of
the animals. The easiest way to do this is to click on one of the animals,
then click the '?' and you'll see the animal's favorites listed. From there,
you can tap on the desired elements to bring up a bar with that item
highlighted. Click on the item from that bar to select it, then start
placing it throughout the cage. Do this for each cage and its inhabitants,
making sure that you've set down the right soil in particular. Most animals
want a lot of soil, then two or three special objects like rocks, trees or
water. When you're done--or maybe even before--you should have your four
exhibits with good pouplarity. Easy objective!
3. Invest in research and create an exhibit for a lion.
Now you'll have to slow down a bit. Make sure that you've truly optimized
each of the four exhibits, which will go a long way toward earning you a
three-star rating that you'll need in order to research for the lion. Create
a fifth and a sixth cage at this point, both 4x4 as normal. Also, lay nice
brickwork along the paths and set up an ATM, snack food stand and some
restrooms to keep zoo visitors happy. That also has the positive effect of
boosting your zoo ranking. Put some antelope in one of the newly-created
cages and optimize their biomes so that you can go up a zoo rank more easily.
When you hit three stars, research animals and then place two lions (one
male, one female) in the newly-created cage, along with a zookeeper.
4. Raise two lions that have a happiness level of at least 70%.
Since you have a zookeeper in the cage with them, the lions should feel happy
very quickly. Optimize their biomes if you like, and you can also go into
the zoo manager mode by clicking on the lions. There, playing the mini-game
indicated by the hand (it lets you tap numbers along the animals to pet them
and make them feel moer social) will boost both lions and help you finish the
objective early. Your first real stage is done!

ZOOKEEPER IN TRAINING: START-UP ZOO {C0202}
===========================================
Description: "There are a number of steps to creating a thriving zoo for the
animals and for the guests. In your start-up zoo, you'll need to take things
one step at a time to build your facility into a popular destination spot."
Biome: Grassland
Map Size: Medium
Start Casth: $100,000
Difficulty: Easy
Bonus: Freeform Zoo Maps (4 through 6)
These early stages should be pretty easy, but there are still places where
you might get hung up so don't hesitate to look for specific advice here if
needed. Particularly on these early stages, there are multiple strategies
that will work equally well, so I'm just relaying what worked great for me.
1. Create exhibits for four different kinds of animals.
From the diagonal upper left of where you start, you'll notice a nice space
available. Clear it of any trees with your dozer, then set up four 4x4 grids
with room for a path between them. They'll just fit within the pre-set
constraints of the existing path. Lay down the appropriate paths, then place
a zookeeper worker in each of the four exhibits. Now place animals in them
to keep the zookeepers company. Place one male and one female for each of
the four available species on the top row: moose, camel, flamingo and zebra.
2. Provide proper restrooms, drink stands, food shops, and benches to satisfy
the guests basic needs.
This assignment is self-explanatory. Along the main path at the zoo's
entrance, you should be able to place an ATM, a snack stand and a drink
stand. Then on the opposite side of that path, create a restroom and a bench
and a vending cart. They'll all fit if you do it right. When you're done
with your construction and exit the construction menu, you should complete
the objective.
3. Care for at least 10 animals in your zoo.
This one should be taking care of itself, since you put a total of four
animals in the exhibits and some of them will be having offspring. Go back
through and optimize the exhibits to feature the landscape the animals like,
if you haven't already. They'll have offspring shortly and that will take
the number of animals in your zoo over the minimum of 10.
4. Improve guest satisfaction! Make sure your zoo has an ATM, restaurant,
and picnic tables. Guests can enjoy sitting down to eat at the tables nearby
a food shop.
At this point, you should be able to satisfy the requirements by now placing
a picnic table near the snack food stand you created. Your number of stars
for your zoo should be near three by now. Once it reaches that, investigate
buildings one time and you'll then be given the ability to create a
restaurant. Place it on the map next to the picnic table you just added and
you should be done with the stage.

ZOOKEEPER IN TRAINING: BEYOND START-UP {C0203}
==============================================
Description: "With the experience you've gained already, the next step is to
transition into a successful growth facility. Expand on this basic zoo to
obtain growth in zoo fame, and guest traffic."
Biome: Grassland
Map Size: Medium
Start Casth: $100,000
Difficulty: Easy
Bonus: Star Animal (Penguin)
This stage can prove troublesome if you're still grappling with the controls.
If you're fairly comfortable, though, and follow the directions below...
you'll do great. The main thing is waiting for zoo visitors to arrive, which
can take some time (especially in the case of the final objective).
1. Design attractions for your zoo to increase attendance to 150 or more.
Build two 4x4 grids to the diagonal upper left of the zoo entrance, in the
space roughly provided. Surround the cages with brick work, and cover the
existing gray-toned walkway, as well. In each of the cages you created,
place a zookeeper worker. Then in one cage, place two male and two female
mooses. In the other, place two male and two female flamingos. Now optimize
each exhibit to its residents' tastes. This will cause people to come
pouring into the zoo.
While the animals are having fun in their new home, go ahead and spruce up
the nearby areas. Add some concession stands and an ATM. Maybe even have a
zoo personnel greet guests with a guided tour (the worker costs 200). It
shouldn't take long to reach a level of 150 guests and have the first
objective complete.
2. Create exhibits for two species of animals that require a zoo rating of
three stars or higher.
By the time you finish the first objective, you're probably around a year
into this stage. You should also have three stars and already have
researched animals at that level, so all you'll need to do now is build two
more 4x4 cages, then drop zookeepers into them and some of the required
animals. Good options are the California sea lion and regular lions. The
former will run you $5000, while the latter is $7500. Put two of each (one
male, one female) in their respective cages with the zookeepers and the
objective is met.
3. Increase your zoo rating to four stars or more!
To accomplish this, simply optimize the cages that contain your lions and sea
lions. You should easily roll up to four stars after doing so, if you're not
there already.
4. Boost zoo attendance up to 400 guests!
You should already be nearly to 300 guests if you've been following the above
directions. Reaching 400 will just require waiting. In the meantime, you
probably have money to burn. You can spend it to build more cages for more
animals (optimizing them as you do so and placing zookeepers within). This
will allow time to pass more quickly as you wait for numbers to rise, and
should help them to climb more swiftly to boot. Or if you have $75,000, you
may also consider running a television commercial. That will have a definite
impact on your number of visitors to the zoo and is absolutely the best step
you can take if you're running short on time. When you reach 400 guests, the
stage is complete.
==========================================
TROUBLED ZOOS: REGAIN PUBLIC TRUST {C0301}
==========================================
Description: "The zoo has threatened to go bankrupt ever since a news report
uncovered signs of poor animal treatment. It will be your job to ensure the
animals are in good care and help bring the guests back to the zoo."
Biome: Grassland
Map Size: Medium
Start Casth: $80,000
Difficulty: Moderate
Bonus: Rhino Statue
This stage might have you worried that your time will run out, but you should
take your time with the first few steps. If you do, the last two objectives
can be completed in mere seconds. Don't psyche yourself out and this'll be
an easy task for you.
1. Create three exhibits that have five animals or more inside.
If you look at the map, you should see where the game has already sectioned
off a few areas. Build cages in those, 4x4 or 5x5 depending on your personal
preference. Then stock each cage with one zookeeper worker and five animals.
Use the inexpensive breeds. Also, make sure you have two males and two
females among each group.
2. Build exhibits for the endangered black rhino and black panther.
Now that you've built the pens, go back through and optimize each exhibit.
This shouldn't take long at all, or cost much money. When that's done, go
around paving the paths around the cages with brickwork, which patrons will
like more. With each of those three groups of animals optimized, they should
start having babies, which will push up your zoo's rating very quickly. Once
you reach three stars, you can research more animals to set the stage for the
black rhino and black panther. While that's happening, go ahead and build
three more cages, 4x4 in size, for each of those animal breeds that will be
arriving and for one more breed of animal that you'll be using to boost your
zoo rank. Place a zookeeper worker in each one. Now when you reach three
stars, research animals. Once you can, place a male and female lion in one
of the new cages. Optimize it and that should carry you up to four stars.
Alternatively, you may soon reach four stars just with the work you've alrady
done, and with judicious placement of a few final out buildings. Once you
have four stars, you can research the rhino and black panther, then place
them in the remaining two cages to complete the objective.
3. The guests continue to increase. Your next task will be to raise 10
animals and return them back to the wild. This will appeal to the
conservationists.
For this, just release some of the cheap animals you still have hanging
around in the first cages you built. Don't empty any one cage. You should
be able to release five from each of those first two cages at no expense to
yourself.
4. Establish an Endangered Animals Center in your park.
This is another easy task. Just research buildings until you can build the
Endangered Animals Center (you only need to have four stars, which you
already do from the previous objective). Plop it anywhere you like and
that's the final objective completed!
============================================
TROUBLED ZOOS: SECRET TO ZOO SUCCESS {C0302}
============================================
Description: "The Animal Care Development Group has ranked this zoo near the
bottom of its annual Zoo Report for five years in a row. Your job will be to
rebuild the zoo and make it a popular attraction for guests to visit."
Biome: Tropical Rainforest
Map Size: Medium
Start Casth: $80,000
Difficulty: Moderate
Bonus: Star Animal (Sea Otter)
This stage can take awhile to complete because there's a bit more research
involved than what you might be used to. If you have any questions about
what to do, the information below should answer some of them. Not everything
is obvious for some of the objectives.
1. Create an exhibit for a pair of red kangaroos to give birth to a baby.
Just ahead of where your cursor starts in this area and to the left, there's
a perfect space to make a quick 4x4 cage for two red kangaroos. Just make
one male and one female. Optimize the area and supply a zookeeper worker in
the space, then enter zookeeper mode by pointing to one of the kangaroos with
your stylus. Play the mini-game that lets you tap numbers on the screen to
raise the spirits of first one kangaroo, then the other. They'll mate
shortly. While you're waiting for that magic to occur, go ahead and spruce
up the trails and add some concession areas. When the baby is born, you'll
automatically receive credit for completing the first objective.
2. Guests would like to take home a souvenir! Make sure to put a gift cart
and a lion photo corner inside your zoo.
The gift cart you need to complete this objective is available from the
start, so make sure to place one if you haven't already. The lion photo
center only comes after your zoo reaches the third star level and you
research buildings. That won't happen unless you add some more exhibits, so
go ahead and place two more 4x4 pens, then fill them with a male and a female
of the two breeds that suit you. When your third star arrives, research the
buildings and animals sections. Then when your lion photo booth becomes
available, place it wherever you like (it doesn't have to be near an actual
den of lions).
3. Fund animal research and build an African elephant exhibit in your zoo.
Just keep optimizing your zoo and cages that already contain animals. One
good idea at this point is to build two more cages. One will hold your
elephant eventually, and one should presently hold a different creature. Go
ahead and place a male and female lion in one, along with a zookeeper.
Optimize it and treat the lions good. They'll help you achieve another star.
Also, make sure that you place a restaurant building now that you can, which
also helps your zoo rating. When you have five stars, research all four
levels of animals and you'll activate the elephant. Place him in the cage
that should be remaining to complete this objective.
4. Build a penguin exhibit.
Now that you've got the elephant, this next challenge should be easy. In
fact, what I do is sell the elephant and then turn around and buy a penguin
with the cash I gained. There's nothing preventing you from doing the same
thing. You don't even have to optimize the cage (and by now, you probably
shouldn't anyway, since you may be running up against your time deadline).
Simple!

TROUBLED ZOOS: DIRECTOR's DEMANDS {C0303}
=========================================
Description: "You've been reassigned to a new zoo where the chairman on the
board of directors has a reputation for being quite the eccentric. One zoo
director after the other has quit after being unable to deal with his over-
the-top, crackpot ideas."
Biome: Grassland
Map Size: Medium
Start Casth: $150,000
Difficulty: Moderate
Bonus: Star Animal (Koala)
This stage serves as a nice introduction to the sort of challenges you'll
find throughout the remainder of the campaign mode, though in a more mellow
sort of way. It's the perfect time to start honing your skills without the
pressure you'll find in the areas to come.
1. Design exhibits for three different horned animals.
Build four cages near the entrance, each 4x4 in size with a zookeeper in
attendance. In one of the cages, place a male and female moose. Optimize it
and place concession stands and other such structures around the zoo until
you achieve another star for the zoo. Now you can place the other two horned
animals. In one cage, place a male and female antelope, along with a
zookeeper. Optimize the cage. Now in yet another of your four cages, place
a male and female giraffe. This will make three different horned animals.
2. Build two different exhibits for animals that inhabit polar regions. Each
exhibit needs two or more animals.
Make sure you've optimized the first three areas you created. This is
important so that your zoo can achieve more stars, allowing you to study new
breeds of animal and also to learn how to build the Restaurant and Compost
buildings you'll want to place shortly. Go ahead and build another two cages
at this point, 4x4 in size like the others. Once you can, build your compost
heap in a suitable location, and add a restaurant to your concession area.
That should generate revenue you may want soon, plus boost your zoo's rating
so you can get more stars and study more animals. Keep improving things
until your studies allow you to place two polar bears (one male, one female)
and two emperor penguins (one male, one female). You'll need to have four
stars to do the research required to access those animals.
3. Add exhibits for four different animals from the feline family.
Build three more cages. By now, you should have no trouble stocking them
with two (one male, one female) of each of the following species: cheetah,
lion, black panther and Spanish lynx. You'll need to have researched animals
as much as is allowed, so do that if you haven't already. You should also
research your maintenance crew at least one level, so that you can stock each
pen with one zookeeper. Place each of the four cat species in a cage with a
zookeeper and that completes that objective.
4. Raise 15 or more animals with a happines rate of 80% or better.
Since you've been optimizing cages as you go, this objective should take care
of itself almost the minute you've placed the final cats to complete the last
one. If you're having any trouble, just go back through and make sure that
you have optimized each cage and that a zookeeper is in each one to keep the
animals happy. There shouldn't be any issues.

THE GLOBE: THE WORLD'S BIOMES {C0401}
=====================================
Description: "The geography department of a major university has funded a
massive biome project to create a facility where the major biomes of the
world are represented. You have the task to create such an environment."
Biome: Temperate Forest
Map Size: Medium
Start Casth: $150,000
Difficulty: Challenging
Bonus: African elephant pond
Since this is the first map of this sort in the game, you might have a hard
time trying to go it alone. Only certain animals actually count toward your
objectives, so keep the following directions carefully in mind as you work
your way through. If you do, it'll turn out to be a piece of cake.
Otherwise, you may have a lot of trial and error ahead of you.
1. Build exhibits for animals that inhabit savannah, desert, tundra, and
scrub biomes.
You should start by sectioning off eight areas where you will have pens,
reasonably close together with room for eateries and such in between. For
now, you'll be focusing on four pens, so it's easiest to put those on the
left half of the map with eateries in between, then four pens you'll use
later on the map's right side.
With the four on the left, start by placing zookeepers in each one so that
when animals come, they'll be tended to automatically. You should have
plenty of cash to spare at this point, anyway. In one pen, place one male
and one female camel and optimize their area to the desert biome. In
another, place zebras and optimize to the sahara biome. In another, you'll
want to place kangaroos and optimize to the scrub biome. Note that while you
can succeed in this part of the mission without the optimization, you'll need
to tend to it later anyway. Might as well do it now.
With those three sets of animals placed, make sure you've set the zoo up so
it's attractive to your visitors. The brick walkways should replace the
default paths, for example. Make sure as usual that you have the eateries
near the entrance, and the ATM and restrooms. These things will affect your
zoo rating, and you need four stars to really make any headway here. As soon
as you can, research animals and buildings so that you can access the polar
bear. Place one male and one female in the fourth pen on the left side,
which should be the last of those that is empty. This should clear the
mission's first criteria.
2. Build exhibits for animals that inhabit wetlands, tropical rainforest,
boreal forest, and temperate forest biomes.
Start by optimizing the pen for the polar bears that you just created. Now
move on to fill the four remaining pens that you should have already set up
by now if following my directions. In one place flamingos (wetlands), in
another a male and a female moose (for boreal forest, though the more
expensive grey wolves will also work if you want to waste money), in another
the koala bears and in a final one a black panther or two. Optimize each
biome as you go, to save time. This step is actually pretty easy to clear.
3. Using at least three different species, raise 20 or more animals with a
happiness rating of 80% or higher.
Now you need to have 20 or more animals in your biomes at 80% happiness or
better. If you've been optimizing your biomes, this should practically take
care of itself. Fill one of your biomes up with cheap animals, such as the
flamingos or the moose area. This should get your numbers up to the 20
needed to pass the assignment.
4. Create outstanding facilities to form a five-star zoo.
Your final goal now will be to make a five-star zoo. If you haven't already,
make sure that you're researching your structures. You should be able to
build an endangered species sancutary to boost your rating pretty quickly,
plus you can release some animals into the wild for easy points. This is
another criteria that goes pretty easy, and then the mission is over. If
you've followed my directions to the letter, you might even have a few years
to spare!
=========================================
THE GLOBE: AFRICAN ANIMAL EMPIRE {C0402}
=========================================
Description: "A wealthy landowner would like to create an animal park
featuring animals only from Africa. You can use any animal to get the zoo
going, but animals from other regions must eventually be released back the
wild before your job can be considered complete."
Biome: Savannah
Map Size: Medium
Start Cash: $150,000
Difficulty: Challenging
Bonus: Star Animal (American Beaver)
You have 70 months for this mission, though you shouldn't find it difficult
to complete in half that time if you follow the simple strategies outlined
below. It's unlikely that you'll even come close to running out of money.
Really, this one is nowhere near as difficult as the game's "Challenging"
designation would lead you to believe.
1. Return a Gray Wolf and a red kangaroo to the wild without selling them or
allowing one of these animals to die.
Start by placing zookeepers in each of the two cages, since you'll want
employees there anyway. Then click to tend to the needs of the gray wolf
(feed him, water him, clean him and give him medication using the stylus
mini-games) then do the same with the red kangaroo. This will bring the
animals up to proper health so that you can release them to the wild.
2. Build exhibits for four kinds of aanimals from the Avrican savannah.
Now it's time to bring in some of the animals the zoo director wants. Begin
with a male and female of each of the zebra and cheetah species. You can
place them in the existing cages, then make two more cages for antelope and
ostriches. Place animals and zoo directors in each.
3. Create four exhibits with a popularity of three stars or more.
Go through the cages you've created and check their popularity level. The
easiest way to make your areas popular is to optimize them so that the
animals like them while making sure that you have entertainment for people
who might watch and a good variety of plant life within the cages. This
works easier if you've created larger ones on a 5x5 grid when possible. With
a male and female, there's also the draw of potential baby animals. It
shouldn't be hard to boost your rating here.
4. Build eight different exhibits using only African savannah animals to
create an African Savannah theme park.
This part of the assignment is going to involve researching the animals so
that you can obtain all of the Savannah set of creatures. Go ahead and make
sure that you have a total of eight suitable cages (one of which should be
especially large, 5x5 or better), and while you're doing that have money
going into research for animal types. Hopefully, you'll have enough stars to
research the later species. If not, you can start donating animals to the
wild as an easy way to boost your stars (but obviously not too many; leave at
least two creatures in each existing cage). You have to research all the way
to the top of the research chain (five stars) for the African elephant. Once
you have the animals (giraffe, black rhino, lion and elephant), place them in
their cages--one each should be sufficient for the new breeds--and you're
done!

THE GLOBE: ANIMAL CONSERVATION {C0403}
======================================
Description: "The birth of any baby animal is always a momentous occasion,
but the captive breeding of an endangered animal is an important, proactive
way of ensuring species survival. Do your part to encourage the reproduction
of several species of endangered animals."
Biome: Grassland
Map Size: Medium
Start Cash: $150,000
Difficulty: Challenging
Bonus: Star Animal (Mountain Gorilla)
You'll have 80 months to complete this campaign stage, but you'll need almost
all of that time because of the research and breeding involved during the
process.
1. Create a healthy exhibit where a Galapagos tortoise can give birth.
For this objective, start by creating a 5x5 area for the turtle. Toss in a
zookeeper worker, then a male and a female turtle. Optimize the biome so
that they can bear a child. Then while the turtles are doing their thing,
make sure you've laid nice brickwork around the cage and set up some of the
usual support buildings for your eventual patrons. The turtle baby should be
born shortly and then you can begin on the next objective.
2. Create a healthy exhibit where a gray wolf can give birth.
Before you can snag a gray wolf, you have to improve your zoo's ranking a
bit. Near your turtle cage, build a 5x5 area that will eventually hold the
gray wolf. Place a zookeeper in the area. Now if you need to quickly boost
your rating because you already have all the buildings you want, bring in a
few animals and then release them to the wild until you have three stars.
Flamingos work well for this purpose, and all you need to do is fill the
space with their wetlands soil to make them perfectly happy. When you have
enough stars to begin researching new animals, do so until you can gain the
gray wolf. Then place a male and female in the space and let them produce a
young one. Objective completed!
3. Create an exhibit where an orangutan can give birth.
This exhibit will require more research. Make sure you research buildings so
that you can build a nice restaurant for your patrons (which will also
improve your zoo rating, possibly) and continue adding a few buildings on the
side and releasing animals to the wild if necessary (though of course keep a
minimum few in to keep the zoo interesting for visitors). You need a five-
star zoo to be able to place an orangutan, so there will be some considerable
optomization necessary. If you have to, build a smaller cage for some
animals that users tend to like, some sort of endangered species such as the
rhino, just to improve your zoo rating. Before too long, you should finally
be able to research the orangutan and then place a male and female. Build
another 5x5 cage, this one for the orangutan, and place a zookeeper inside.
You're going to need a lot of money, since the orangutans cost $35,000
apiece, so make sure you're not wasting money along the way. Put in a male
and female orangutan and optimize the biome. Next, make sure that you play
the nurturing mini-game with each orangutan, where you tap the different
numbered squares on the screen. This will put the animals in a better mood
more quickly than what your hired zookeeper will. Next wait for the baby to
come. When it does, you're ready for the last objective.
4. Create a healthy exhibit where an American beaver can give birth.
Place a new area for your incoming beavers, if you haven't already. Place a
zookeeper in the space, then a male and female beaver. Optimize the area,
then brush them and play the number tapping mini-game for each one to
encourage them to socialize. This is your last goal, so all of your energy
should go to keeping those two beavers really happy so that they make a baby.
Once they do, you're done with the area.

DREAM ZOO: OPEN A DOLPHIN SHOW {C0501}
======================================
Description: "This zoo needs to add a dolphin show as part of a new plan to
improve the zoo. But first, you'll need to raise enough cash and earn
experience as this zoo's director. Start by putting 20 or more animals on
display and make sure all of them have a happiness of 80% or higher."
Biome: Tropical Rainforest
Map Size: Medium
Start Cash: $80,000
Difficulty: Extremely Difficult
Bonus: Star Animal (Giant Panda)
This stage can be genuinely difficult because you start with a small budget
and you have to do so much training to complete the objectives. Follow the
directions below carefully or you'll come up short of cash and have to waste
time sitting around while your budget slowly renews.
1. Using at least three different species, raise 20 or more animals with a
happiness rating of 80% or higher.
Do just what the objective says, but don't worry if it takes a bit. The goal
here is to use quality animals so that you can easily sell their offspring
for good money. Build three cages 5x5 in size and place your critters. Half
of each breed should be male, half female. Put zookeepers in each cage. Now
focus your energies on sprucing up the zoo by making brick walkways and
concession stands and such. You'll want to research in all areas as
possible, to get it out of the way right from the start.
You especially need to improve your workers, so that they can more dependably
do the job of animal husbandry. Also, improve the buildings and get a
recycle center built immediately for some revenue from that side of things.
Have a few cleaning workers around to collect and recycle rubbish for money.
Remember your restaurants, too; you'll want to place high-quality restaurants
as soon as your research will let you for more money. That stuff is more
important than getting this first objective out of the way in a hurry, since
the last three will go quickly if you lay good groundwork right from the
start.
Once you have good revenue coming in from animals breeding--that you can then
sell--work actively toward completing this first objective. Remember to
optimize your biomes so that people will like your exhibits more and spend
more money. You shoudl be able to complete this first objective fairly
easily with proper planning as outlined above.
2. Design a dolphin exhibit with a popularity of three stars or more. Hire a
Marine Specialist.
This objective is going to take some research, but you don't want to go broke
in the process. You want your rating to keep rising so you can continue to
research the animals, structures and your workers, which all will be
necessary for the eventual dolphin exhibit. You'll have to have a 5-star zoo
to research and tehn purchase the dolphin, so don't slack on building
concession areas both to boost your rating and generate revenue. The
dolphins cost $6000 apiece and you will want at least two of them, plus a
marine trainer that you can palce in the space. Remember that you have to
build the aquarium type cage to hold the show. Leave room (four squares)
next to the exhibit for the next objective.
3. Add a grandstand adjacent to the dolphin's tank.
You should have done enough research by now on buildings to know how to build
a grandstand, which you should place immediately next to your dolphin
exhibit. Don't let anything rest between the two structures, and make sure
patrons can reach them by the walkways. This one is easy by now (hopefully).
4. Fund your zoo's dolphin research project. Open the dolphin's information
screen after the project is complete. Then, touch the animal to go to
Zookeeper Mode where you can start a dolphin show.
This one involves more research. You pretty much have to have all of your
research maxed out at this point, which is the difficult part of the stage.
Once you do, just touch one of the dolphins to bring up the zoo management
section, where you can play the mini-games. You'll notice an icon has now
appeared in the upper left corner of the screen. Click it to begin the show.
After the show (you can press 'Start' to skip out of it), exit the zoo
management screens and you're done. Mission complete!

DREAM ZOO: THE MYSTERIOUS PANDA {C0502}
=======================================
Description: "One of the most recognizable animals in the world, the giant
panda is also one of the most endangered. Only zoos with exceptional
reputations are even considered as recipients for giant panda adoptions.
Will yours be one of them?"
Biome: Wetlands
Map Size: Medium
Start Cash: $150,000
Difficulty: Extremely Difficult
Bonus: Freeform Zoo Maps (7 through 9)
After the dolphin exhibit challenge in the previous stage, this one will
probably strike you as rather easy. It's still possible to mess up at this
stage in the game--severely--but this stage mostly serves as a nice break
before the challenging final area.
1. Create three exhibits with a popularity of four stars or more.
This should be easy. Just start as usual, by building up some concessions
and by setting up three cages in the areas already mapped out by the brick
walkways. Try putting four animals in each cage, two male and two female of
whatever breeds you choose. Don't forget the zookeeper you should place in
each one. Once that's done, go back through and give each animal personal
care with the touching mini-game (where you tap the numbers on the animals)
to bring up the rank of the animals in each exhibit. It shouldn't be
difficult to raise your rank in each of the three cages.
2. Build exhibits for a polar bear and a grizzly bear.
You probably didn't have a chance to research anything before completing the
first step. Shortly into this objective, you should find your zoo at three
stars, allowing you to research. Go ahead and spend money researching each
available category, then build the nicer restaurant when you can and also the
recycle area. These modifications should allow you to improve your rating a
bit. Also let loose some baby critters into the wild if available, to
additionally boost your rating so that you're closer to being able to build
cages for the two bear types. While waiting for your rank to climb as a
result of those changes, go ahead and set up two cages for the bears.
Deposit zookeepers, then two of each bear once they actually become available
(one male and one female of each species, naturally).
3. Design a giant panda exhibit with a popularity of four stars or more.
Make sure that the biomes you created for the bears while completing the
previous objective are properly optimized. Now it's time to continue
researching if necessary, and to build a large cage where your panda can feel
at home. A 5x5 grid will do fine. Surround it in the iron bars so people
can see in. Spend time petting your bear once it's created using the zoo
manager mini-game (the one where you tap numbers on the animal). The panda
will cost a hefty $50,000, so for now you'll almost certainly have only
enough for one. Don't forget to place a zookeeper, either.
4. Maintain a healthy exhibit where a female giant panda can give birth.
Just keep working to optimize your exhibit. What you're waiting for is the
moment when you have $50,000 to buy another panda to go with your first one.
They need to procreate in order for you to pass this mission. If you're
having trouble earning money, sell the offspring of the other creatures that
should have mated by now and set up more concessions if necessary. When you
have the money, add another panda to the mix (obviously be careful to make
sure that the one you buy is of the opposite sex, since they're so pricey).
Now, make sure you pay careful attention to both of them, even with the
zookeeper you hired wandering their area. If more money comes in, use it to
upgrade your worker's efficiency so that offspring is more likely to result.
When the baby comes, the mission is over!
===================================
DREAM ZOO: AMAZING ANIMALS! {C0503}
===================================
Description: "You've gained quite a reputation as a Zoo Director. Now, the
National Zoological Association has recommended that you be put in charge of
the nation's first National Zoo. This zoo will need to put the world's
rarest and most amazing animals on display if it is to live up to
expectations!"
Biome: Grassland
Map Size: Medium
Start Cash: $200,000
Difficulty: Extremely Difficult
Bonus: Unlimited Cash (Freeform)
You've come all this way, and now you're ready for the final challenge in the
Campaign mode. Can you handle it? Probably, and if not, you have this FAQ
to help you through the tough spots. Just follow the directions below and
you'll be through it in no time!
1. Build a dolphin exhibit.
Okay, remember when you built the dolphin exhibit? Well, you'll need to do
that again now. Of course, this means building up a 5-star zoo, which by now
you should know how to do without step-by-step directions. Just keep the
usual stuff in mind: make sure you have nice walkways (fortunately, the game
starts you out with some) and that you have plenty of concession areas. Get
to work right away on building nice, optimized exhibits and boosting their
ranks up quickly so that your zoo builds stars. Research animals at the
earliest opportunity, along with building structures. Animals you'll want to
research the maximum allowed. Also research your employee skills up to the
third stage, and buildings should be researched up through that level as
well.
When you get your exhibit going, you'll be able to do it with just one
dolphin and the marine trainer. Don't worry about building a grandstand or
putting on an actual show, as that's not required and will waste precious
resources you don't likely have.
2. Build exhibits for two kinds of star animals.
This is a good time to make sure that you have around eight 4x4 exhibits
along the bottom of the area, with concession stands on either side. Eight
is the magical number. You don't want to save time by emptying out used
exhibits, since that could prevent your growing zoo from really building
steam. By this point, you should most likely have five of the eight already
occupied (counting the dolphin exhibit). Make sure you have eight formed and
put animals in them that go well with their environments. Put a trainer in
each one and optimize them so that visitors will like what they see when they
come to your zoo. As possible, try to have a male and female in each one.
Anything more is overkill and wasted money. As for the star animals, just
stick in two penguins in one display and two koala bears in the other.
Remember to mix male and female and to optimize. This part's easy.
3. Build exhibits for two kinds of amazing animals.
For this step, you'll want to add two more cages, this time 5x5 grids. You
have to buy two specific animals that are quite pricy: the saber tooth tiger
($40,000) and the Triceritops ($60,000). Buy just one of each. Note that
the Triceritops can't be held by anything but the electrified fence. Don't
waste your time on a cage that won't hold it. You'll just be told you can't
place the animal. The saber tooth tiger seems a lot easier to place, though
I recommend the stone wall with windows.
4. Make additions to your zoo and boost the zoo attendance up to 1,000.
This can be difficult to do, but you should keep in mind that you can
advertise to increase attendance, at a rate of $10,000 per three-month ad.
First make sure all of your cages are optimized and that you have a male and
female in each except the really expensive 'amazing' animals, and that you
have restaurants and such. Then advertise as necessary to increase
attendance to the desired amount. You'll lose if you don't get the number of
visitors to 1000 by around the middle of 2007. Otherwise, you win the final
campaign. Enjoy the closing credits!

ANIMAL INFORMATION {F0001}
==========================
Here is information about the different types of animal available in the
game. Remember that many breeds are available only after you've researched
them within a freeform zoo, or within a given stage in the game's 'campaign'
mode. Star animals will be unlocked as you play through 'campaign' mode, as
well.
MOOSE
Stars: 1
Cost: $1,250
Biome: Boreal Forest
Location: North America
Notes: This animal is available right from the start, and an affordable way
to start building your zoo.
DRAMEDARY CAMEL
Stars: 1
Cost: $1,250
Biome: Desert
Location: Africa
Notes: Also available from the start, this is your other option if you want
cheap expansion.
GREATER FLAMINGO
Stars: 1
Cost: $2,000
Biome: Wetlands
Location: Africa
Notes: These guys cost more to create, but they are satisfied with minimal
requirements. Just place wetlands soil around the cage and they'll be almost
completely delighted with their biome.
ZEBRA
Stars: 1
Cost: $3,000
Biome: Savannah
Location: Africa
Notes: Zebras look cool but cost more. That's okay if you're trying to build
an exhibit that will draw in the customers, though.
NILE CROCODILE
Stars: 1
Cost: $3,000
Biome: Wetlands
Location: Africa
Notes: Available right from the start, but probably not the best choice for a
cheap cage or a quick audience.
GALAPAGOS GIANT TORTOISE
Stars: 1
Cost: $3,000
Biome: Scrub
Location: Galapagos Islands
Notes: Another animal that's available from the start and pricier than many
of his peers.
RED KANGAROO
Stars: 1
Cost: $3,000
Biome: Scrub
Location: Australia
Notes: It could be just my imagination, but the red kangaroos seem to draw
crowds pretty easily and to produce offspring quickly, so they make a good
choice if you're ready to spend $3,000 a head.
OSTRICH
Stars: 1
Cost: $5,500
Biome: Savannah
Location: Africa
Notes: The last of the animals that you can place in a cage right as you are
starting a new stage.
GIANT SABLE ANTELOPE
Stars: 2
Cost: $5,500
Biome: Savannah
Location: Africa
Notes: You have to reach three stars for your zoo level to use this creature.
No research is required.
KAMODO DRAGON
Stars: 2
Cost: $5,500
Biome: Scrub
Location: Asia
Notes: You can place this creature once your zoo reaches three stars, without
any research.
CHEETAH
Stars: 2
Cost: $7,500
Biome: Savannah
Location: Africa
Notes: once your zoo reaches the 3-star level, the cheetah is a good
purchase... if you don't mind spending $7,500 a head!
MASAI GIRAFFE
Stars: 2
Cost: $7,500
Biome: Savannah
Location: Africa
Notes: The giraffe is fairly easy to keep satisfied once you reach a 3-star
zoo level and it becomes available, but the cheetah might be the way to go
instead for cheap thrills.
PYGMY HIPPO
Stars: 3
Cost: $7,500
Biome: Wetlands
Location: Africa
Notes: You can't select this creature until you've researched animals one
time.
LION
Stars: 3
Cost: $7,500
Biome: Savannah
Location: Africa
Notes: The lion is a really good animal to have, but you have to research
before he'll be available for use in a given stage.
GRAY WOLF
Stars: 3
Cost: $7,500
Biome: Boreal Forest
Location: North America
Notes: The gray wolf is a crowd pleaser but not available until you've done
some research.
CALIFORNIA SEA LION
Stars: 3
Cost: $5,000
Biome: Salt Water
Location: North America
Notes: You'll want an aquatic area if you plan to place this creature, and
that also means it's a good idea to have a marine trainer in your staff.
POLAR BEAR
Stars: 4
Cost: $10,000
Biome: Tundra
Location: North Pole
Notes: Reach a 4-star zoo level and research animals twice to obtain this
beast.
BLACK RHINO
Stars: 4
Cost: $10,000
Biome: Savannah
Location: Africa
Notes: The black rhino is an endangered species and useful if you plan to
raise babies with an animal at about this price range, but you'll have to
reach 4-star status and also research animals twice to make it available.
BLACK PANTHER
Stars: 4
Cost: $10,000
Biome: Tropical Rainforest
Location: Asia
Notes: This is another good investment if you're looking to impress visitors
with a rare animal, but again: you have to research animals twice and reach
the 4-star level.
WOLVERINE
Stars: 4
Cost: $10,000
Biome: Boreal Forest
Location: Asia
Notes: I went through the campaign and even freeform zoos my first time
without even using this creature, so it's hard to say that there are any
particular benefits unless you're looking to add variety (always a good
thing, of course).
CHIMPANZEE
Stars: 5
Cost: $15,000
Biome: Tropical Rainforest
Location: Africa
Notes: You'll need to research animals completely and also reach the 5-star
zoo level for this animal.
GRIZZLY BEAR
Stars: 5
Cost: $15,000
Biome: Boreal Forest
Location: North America
Notes: This is another creature that requires a 5-star zoo and full research
of the various animal species.
SPANISH LYNX
Stars: 5
Cost: $15,000
Biome: Temperate Forest
Location: Worldwide
Notes: Extensive animal reseach and a 5-star zoo are requirements if you want
to place this animal.
DOLPHIN
Stars: 5
Cost: $6,000
Biome: Salt Water
Location: Worldwide
Notes: The dolphin is required for the dolphin show, of course. Develop a 5-
star zoo and then build a marine-style exhibit for your dolphin. You'll want
a marine trainer instead of a standard zookeeper in the tank. Once you have
a dolphin, you can run a dolphin show by researching buildings and your
workers to high levels, then building a grandstand next to the dolphin
exhibit. Tap on the dolphin to enter zookeeper mode, then tap on the icon of
the dolphin and from there tap the icon in the upper left corner of the
screen to begin the show.
AFRICAN ELEPHANT
Stars: 5
Cost: $20,000
Biome: Savannah
Location: Africa
Notes: Big and expensive, the elephant is a tough sell unless you're playing
a campaign area that requires his presence. If that's the case, you'll need
a 5-star zoo and plenty of animal research.
ORANGUTAN
Stars: 5
Cost: $35,000
Biome: Tropical Rainforest
Location: Australia
Notes: The last of the 'regular' animals requires 5 stars, plenty of animal
research and an investment of $35,000. That's all rather hard to justify
until you have a lot of money.
EMPEROR PENGUIN
Stars: 1
Cost: $2,000
Biome: Tundra
Location: Antarctica
Notes: The final stage within the second group of campaign stages must be
completed in order to access the penguin.
SEA OTTER
Stars: 2
Cost: $6,500
Biome: Salt Water
Location: North America
Notes: You'll only be able to select the sea otter after completing the
second stage within the 3rd set of campaign stages.
KOALA
Stars: 2
Cost: $7,500
Biome: Temperate Forest
Location: Australia
Notes: The koala is unlocked when you complete the third stage within the 3rd
set of campaign stages.
AMERICAN BEAVER
Stars: 3
Cost: $10,000
Biome: Wetlands
Location: North America
Notes: You can select the American beaver only after completing the second
stage within the 4th set of campaign stages.
MOUNTAIN GORILLA
Stars: 4
Cost: $20,000
Biome: Tropical Rainforest
Location: Africa
Notes: Complete the third stage within the 4th set of campaign stages to
receive the mountain gorilla.
GIANT PANDA
Stars: 5
Cost: $50,000
Biome: Temperate Forest
Location: China
Notes: When you complete the first stage within the 5th set of campaign
stages, you'll receive the giant panda as a reward.
SABER-TOOTHED TIGER
Stars: 6
Cost: $40,000
Biome: Tundra
Location: Worldwide
Notes: Make sure that you have 20 animals in your zoo at once that have a
happiness level of 80% or better to receive the 'Gold Certificate for
Exceptional Animal Happiness' award. The saber-toothed tiger will become
available once you receive the award.
UNICORN
Stars: 6
Cost: $50,000
Biome: Alpine
Location: Worldwide
Notes: If you build 10 exhibits, each with a different species inside, you'll
receive the 'Gold Plaque for Exceptional Animal Diversity' award and the
unicorn will become selectable as a creature to place in your exhibit.
YETI
Stars: 6
Cost: $55,000
Biome: Tundra
Location: Worldwide
Notes: Earn a 6-star zoo rating with 3,000 or more guests and you'll receive
the 'Gold Director's Cup for Outstanding Zoo Popularity' with the yeti as a
bonus prize.
TRICERATOPS
Stars: 6
Cost: $60,000
Biome: Boreal Forest

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS {F0003}
==================================
Q: What do I have to do in order to put on a dolphin show?
A: You're going to have to do some definite research if you'd like to put on
a dolphin show. For starters, you need to research animals all the way to
the maximum level, meaning you need a 5-star zoo or better. Also, research
structures enough that you can build the grandstands (available at the third
level) and also research your workers to the third level. When that's done
and your zoo is at the appropriate level, you can then research the dolphin
show (the fifth icon listed where you can select different categories to
research). Finally, build an 'aquarium' style exhibit and place the
grandstands so that they touch it and face the exhibit. Place a marine
trainer worker within, then add the dolphin. With everything researched and
everything placed, now tap the dolphin with your stylus to enter zookeeper
mode for that animal. In that window, tap on the picture of your dolphin,
which brings up the area where you can usually play mini-games. You'll see
an icon in the upper left corner of the screen which you can tap to begin the
dolphin show.
Q: Why did my game glitch?
Sometimes the game will glitch when your map gets especially crowded. You
may see what looks like a fish swimming around in an exhibit with your polar
bears in an arctic exhibit. Whatever you do, don't tap on the fish! If you
do, your game will freeze and you'll have to turn it off in order to do
anything. This can really stink, but I haven't found a way around it except
to avoid touching the fish. Why does the glitch work like that? I think
it's because the game only allows one type of animal within an exhibit, but
I'm really not sure. You'd have to ask the developers.
Q: What's a good way to raise money?
If you're always running out of money, make sure first of all that you have
donation boxes touching your exhibits so people can show their appreciation
for your genius with cash. Also, make sure that you've built restaurants and
have lined your walkways with nice brickwork, plus benches and the occasional
restroom area. Patrons will appreciate that. Perhaps the best way to raise
funds is to make sure that you're including at least one male and one female
in each exhibit, along with a zookeeper. The happy animals will eventually
produce babies, which you can tend to in zookeeper mode and then sell for
good money. This works especially well with some of the more expensive
breeds that only become available once you've researched them (lions, for
example). You can easily build up a few thousand this way, if needed in a
pinch.
Q: Why can't I build more buildings, create more exhibits, place more workers
or buy more animals?
The game sets limits on how many critters you can have in your zoo (30), how
many exhibits (10), how many workers you can employ (10 - 14, depending on
how much research you do) and how many buildings you can erect (20). You can
access information about your current condition by tapping the top icon along
the list of icons, then exploring some of the bottom icons from that
secondary menu.
