Fortnite Building Nerf: New Material Health, Pickaxe Damage, Other Changes

It’s not all Playgrounds and Birthday Cakes in the new Fortnite 5.10 update. A fairly considerable Fortnite building nerf has come into play, with Epic deciding on new material health, a change to the pickaxe damage, as well as both buffs and nerfs to the material found in supply drops. Read on for full details on the wood, stone and metal nerfs, and what it means for the wannabe builders out there.

Fortnite Wood Nerf: New Starting Health and Max Health

The wood nerf is undoubtedly the worst of the bunch when it comes to material health. When putting up a wooden wall now, you’ll find that its starting health has dropped from 100 to 80. In addition to that, the material’s max health is now only 150, down from 200, a decrease of 50 health.

Fortnite Stone Nerf: New Starting Health

Stone changes hasn’t quite given us splinters in the way the Fortnite wood nerf has, but the nerf affects us all the same. The stone wall starting health is also at 80, down 10 health from its original 90 health.

Fortnite Metal Nerf: Build Time, New Max Health

Metal also has new max health, taking a 10% drop from 500 to 450. Ouch. Not only that, but the time it takes to put up a metal wall has increased from 20 seconds to 25 seconds. Every second counts when you’re in the battle royale, and this won’t impress many who rely on their sturdier bases and forts to protect them from damage.

Fortnite Pickaxe Damage: Increased Critical Damage

If the nerf to materials wasn’t bad enough, the buff to Fortnite pickaxe damage might have you up in arms. Originally at 50 damage and 100 for critical hit, a swing as a structure will now do 75 base damage and 150 for a critical hit. However, hitting an enemy will still yield the original 50 damage and 100 critical damage.

Fortnite Building Nerf: Supply Drop Rates

Even supply drops are affected. The following comes from Epic’s 5.1 patch notes, who have crunched the numbers and lowered the rates for wood and stone, but given metal a fair boost.

  • Wood to 33% from 47.6%.
  • Stone to 33% from 35.7%.
  • Metal to 33% from 16.6%.
