Fortnite season 5 is introducing a brand-new item. The Fortnite rift-to-go promises to be a new way of flying around the map and, with its release date quickly closing in, it’s only right for you to get prepared. That’s why we’re covering what the possible mechanics of the Fortnite portable rift item will be, as well as which strategies will be best for you to get the upper hand before anyone else knows what’s hit them. Come fly with me, won’t you?
Fortnite Rift-to-go Release Date:
Epic, as is its wont, gave a tantalizing preview on the Fortnite rift-to-go item in the main menu, starting August 22. While the announcement only teased that it would be “coming soon”, it stands to reason that the Fortnite 5.30 patch coming on August 24 would be the best indication of a rift-to-go release date. Not only does the version number indicate a slightly bigger change than normal (i.e. more items and playthings), but Epic also rarely gives us a glimpse at an item with an in-game notification without being in close proximity to the release date. Expect it on August 30 at the absolute latest.
What is the Fortnite Rift-to-go Item?
Using Epic’s very own description as a foundation gives us a great idea as to what to expect. In it, the Rift-to-go is listed as “A rift you carry in your pocket! Teleport above your current location and glide down.”
While it may have been expected, when you think “rift item” for you to be able to transport across the game’s ever-closing rifts, it’s clear that won’t be the case. Instead, you will be sent into the sky directly above where you were standing.
The Rift-to-go, then, can be used to escape firefights first and foremost but there are so many interesting strategies you can utilize with just one tiny item. You can:
- Escape the storm far quicker via gliding
- Reach the top of a player-made structure in seconds
- Launch a surprise attack
You never know, you may even be able to use the rifts while in vehicles. Imagine an ATK flying out of the sky and squashing someone flat. The rift-to-go is a real game-changer from Epic and could massively switch up how we all play the battle royale.
