Now that World of Warcraft‘s latest expansion, Battle for Azeroth has been out for a few weeks, players may find their bloodlust dying down. If you’re tired of hunting down the latest threat to the Zandalari or picking shards of azerite out of the ground like a more pathetic version of a gold farmer, then casting your eye on old achievements and craftables might help keep you sane. However, a craftsperson is only really as good as their materials. Some are easier to get than others, whether it’s by way of harvesting or buying them off someone else who’s done the dirty work. In the case of star wood, reagents can be hard track down. Check out our WoW star wood guide and we’ll show you where to find this elusive wood, and what it can be used for.
WoW Star Wood Guide: What to use Star Wood for
Star wood is a lumber that really lives up to its namesake. It’s supposedly been touched by the light of the moon, and the legendary Greydon Thorne had a weapon made out of that same wood. Needless to say, it’s the kind of material that heroes use, which means that it’s probably not going to be used for just any old item. That being said, there are three specific uses for star wood, and one of them is especially cool. You can use star wood to craft wands (Lesser Mystic Wand and Greater Mystic Wand) and you can also use this legendary wood to craft a Flying Machine.
For the uninitiated, the Flying Machine is a mount which looks a bit like the world’s most dangerous helicopter. Pint-sized and probably insufficiently protected against any sort of interference from the element, it’s become a mount for the true collector. Those who played Warcraft III will likely recognize its iconic design, and the fact that it’s a little janky; if you don’t stay on the move, the Flying Machine will just cop out on you and has a chance of falling to the ground. If this sounds like something that you’re interested in, then you’re going to have to know how to get your hands on star wood. Luckily, we’ve got you covered.
WoW Star Wood Guide: Where to Find Star Wood
If you’re looking to cut down a swathe through Silverpine Forest to find this wood, then you may be relieved to note that mass deforestation isn’t actually necessary. The easiest way to obtain star wood is to actually buy it off specific people in WoW, and by people we mean NPCs. Star wood vendors are spread out throughout the world, and we’ve separated them by location for you below.

Now that we’ve told you how to get your hands on star wood and the mount that you can craft from it, it’s time to venture out into the world and to source some of that magical resource for yourself. Even if you aren’t a fan of gyrocopters, every mount that you pick up is one step closer to your Mountain of Mounts achievement, so you don’t really have anything to lose by investing in that Flying Machine. Of course, you’re going to need to have Engineering picked up in order to craft that mount, but if you’re not out bashing your head against members of the opposing faction then you’ll have plenty of time to level that up too. What are you waiting for? Go get that wood!
