Beyond Good and Evil 2 – Release Date Rumors, Platforms, Multiplayer, Everything We Know

Beyond Good and Evil 2 is one of the most anticipated games Ubisoft has in production. It’s the sequel (or prequel) to the 2003 game directed by Rayman creator Michel Ancel, who is returning for this new game. But what do we know about it so far? Is there a Beyond Good and Evil 2 release date yet? Will it have multiplayer? What news and rumors have there been? Read on for everything we know.

Beyond Good and Evil 2 Release Date

At the moment, despite being shown off at multiple E3 conferences, Ubisoft has not announced a release date or even a release window for Beyond Good and Evil 2. It’s been in development for a long time so hopefully we don’t have much longer to wait, but at the moment we just don’t know. Expect the game to appear in E3 2019, perhaps with a release window and some decent gameplay this time.

Beyond Good and Evil 2 News

The biggest recent news was the appearance of the game at Ubisoft’s E3 press conference, along with some actual in-game footage. The CGI E3 trailer was suitably epic, much like the trailer from last year, and not only re-introduced the lovable pig P’eyj from the first game, it also brought back Beyond Good and Evil’s protagonist Jade, seemingly as the villain of the sequel.

Additionally, Ubisoft is working with Joseph Gordon Levitt’s company HitRecord to allow fan submissions of music and art for the game, as part of Ubisoft’s “Space Monkeys” program. This program has been somewhat controversial.

Beyond Good and Evil 2 Rumors

There are a number of rumors around the game, a number of which arise from a Beyond Good and Evil 2 survey that Ubisoft sent out recently. While not offering any solid facts (it was only a survey after all), it did ask a number of questions on the reader’s value of single-player versus multiplayer, mentions a shared online world, and asks readers to rate Bungie’s Destiny 2. The game will definitely have co-op, but the rumor is that Beyond Good and Evil 2 will be less like The Legend of Zelda (which the first game was strongly based on) and more like Destiny 2, BioWare’s upcoming Anthem, or The Division, one of Ubisoft’s own titles. We’ll have to see if this will come to pass when we finally see more of the game.

Beyond Good and Evil 2 Platforms

It is likely that Beyond Good and Evil 2 will come out on PS4, Xbox One, and PC even if it doesn’t actually come out for a few more years. No platforms have been confirmed though. The official Space Monkey Program website listed those three platforms but Michel Ancel, the game’s director, said that they haven’t announced what it will come out on yet. Although he did say that no exclusivity is planned.

Since neither a date nor platforms have been confirmed, it is possible that the game could come out on this generation of consoles and the next batch. Some games that straddle the line between generations often do that like Ubisoft’s own Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag and Watch Dogs. A Switch version, however, is unlikely given the console’s power and Ubisoft’s reticence to release its current generation exclusive games on the platform (aside from Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle).

Beyond Good and Evil 2 Trailer

Beyond Good and Evil 2 has had multiple trailers. Not counting the teaser one from 2008 that didn’t show much, Ubisoft has shown the game a few times after its re-reveal in 2017. These trailers have ranged from small dev diary videos to cinematic cutscenes to gameplay. Here is a playlist of all of the game’s videos as well as this in-engine footage.

Beyond Good and Evil 2 Multiplayer

As is the case with most Ubisoft games, Beyond Good and Evil 2 will have at least cooperative multiplayer. But, as Ancel told Kotaku, the team is not “sure how many people it’ll support.” He then also said they had gone up to 15 people but that isn’t final and they didn’t want to go “massively multiplayer.” Players can invite others to join their games and explore together.

But the game will be playable offline as a single-player experience, as stated by Ancel since the co-op is optional. Ancel also stated that offline is standard for him in a stream in May 2018.
