Assassin’s Creed Odyssey – When Do I Unlock the Ship

In Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, sailing your ship around the Greek world is one of the game’s best features, and it’s almost as important as it was in Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag. But if you’ve just started the game, you’re probably wondering when you can finally get off Kephallonia and get your Assassin’s Creed Odyssey ship. When do you get it? When does naval combat become available? We’re here to answer.

How to Get the Assassin’s Creed Odyssey Ship

Fortunately you don’t have to wait too long to get your ship, the Adrestia, and get off the starting island of Kephallonia. Play through the story, and eventually you’ll have to go after the Cyclops, the criminal who’s been threatening you and Markos. He’s busy drowning a man called Barnabas when you meet him. Kill the Cyclops and his men, and then escort Barnabas to safety. He’ll pledge his ship and his crew to you, so you can finally leave the island and go off on your personal odyssey.

Depending on how much you’ve explored Kephallonia or how many side-quests you’ve undertaken, this could take anything between an hour and several hours for you to reach this point. It’s up to you, really!

Why Do You Need the Ship?

At the bare minimum, you need a ship to get off the starting island, otherwise your odyssey will be quite short. Beyond that, the Adrestia is one of the most important parts of Assassin’s Creed Odyssey. You get across the world much faster by sea, and as the map is gigantic and about 60% water you’ll never get across it by horse alone. Plus, naval combat is incredibly fun. Ram ships, fire arrows to weaken them, board and slaughter the occupants, it’s one of the best parts of the game and one you’ll want to experience. Now, you don’t want to be stuck on Kephallonia forever, do you?
