If you’re looking for the Smash Ultimate Character List, you’ve come to the right place. We’ve compiled the full roster for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate so that you can see every single playable character in Masahiro Sakurai’s latest game. The list is written in order of when each character joined the Smash Ultimate roster, with the first character—Mario—being the first to join, and the last entry—Incineroar—being the most recent. We’ve also taken the liberty of marking all seven Echo Fighters, who are alternate fighters based on an established character; for example, Ken is an Echo of Ryu. Anyway, without further ado, here is the entire Smash Ultimate Character List!

It includes all of the DLC characters, too. Every single previous Smash character is on the Ultimate roster. However, for some characters, Smash Ultimate marks their fighting debut.
Who Are The New Characters in the Smash Ultimate Character List?
The full list of new characters that are making their Smash Bros. debut on the Smash Ultimate character list is as follows:
- Inkling (from Splatoon)
- Ridley (from Metroid)
- Simon (from Castlevania)
- King K. Rool (from Donkey Kong)
- Isabelle (from Animal Crossing)
- Incineroar (from Pokemon Sun and Moon)
In addition to the fresh new fighters listed above, the following characters have been announced as future DLC for the Smash Ultimate character list, although they are not available to be played just yet:
- Piranha Plant (from Super Mario)
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Starter Characters
Although you can play every character on the Smash Ultimate character list, Masahiro Sakurai announced that only some characters will be available at the start of the game. However, unlocking new characters happens naturally and quickly, so simply playing the game for a while will grant you access to the majority of the roster in no time.
The original eight characters are the ones that Sakurai referenced as the starter characters. These are:
- Mario
- Donkey Kong
- Link
- Samus
- Dark Samus (Echo)
- Yoshi
- Kirby
- Fox
So, although you might need to use these characters at the start, you’ll gradually gain access to the wider roster simply by playing the game. If you’re lucky, maybe one of these characters is your main; if not, don’t worry. Practicing a bit on one of the above heroes will unlock your main hero in no time and deepen your character pool in the process. Diversity is key when the roster is this stacked.
Is There Smash Ultimate DLC?
The Smash Ultimate character list is already stacked, but there are still plenty more characters to come. Already announced is the Piranha Plant DLC, which will be free for players who have bought and registered a copy of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate prior to January 31, 2019. After that, players will need to purchase the Piranha Plant DLC.
It has also been announced that there will be five more fighters coming to the Smash roster over the next while. These fighters will cost $6 each and will each come as part of a bundle with a stage and music set. If you know you’re going to get all five, you can save $5 by purchasing the Fighters Pass for $25. This will allow you to download each new Fighter DLC pack as it comes out.
That’s pretty much all there is to know about the Smash Ultimate character list so far. With 76 characters to choose from and Piranha Plant plus five more to come, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is likely to have one of the most complex metas ever. So, get your copy, register it, download your free Piranha Plant DLC pack, and start practicing! You’ll start to unlock new characters in no time and can figure out who you’re going to main as you do so. If this is your first Smash, play as many characters as possible in order to find one particular Fighter that suits your play style. With 76 to choose from, you’re bound to find someone you like in no time. Best of luck!
