Smash Ultimate Mewtwo

Smash Ultimate Mewtwo – How to Unlock Mewtwo

While many of us are playing through Super Smash Bros Ultimate, content to unlock characters as and when they come, there are plenty of people who are after specific character unlocks, such as Metwo. There are loads of fighters to choose from in Smash Ultimate, but you only begin with the original eight characters from the N64’s Super Smash Bros. Originally introduced in Melee, many of you are wondering how to unlock Smash Ultimate Mewtwo. It turns out, however, that Mewtwo is a tricky character to unlock.

Read on to find out exactly who the mysterious original most-powerful Pokemon is, how good a fighter he is in Smash Ultimate, and everything you need to know about unlocking the legendary psychic type Pokemon.

Smash Ultimate Mewtwo – Who is Mewtwo?

For the unaware, Mewtwo originally appeared way back when in Pokemon Red and Blue. The psychic type Pokemon was the most powerful Pokemon and was wanted by just about everyone. Mewtwo entered into the Smash Bros series with Melee on the Gamecube, but he didn’t return until Super Smash Bros for Wii U and 3DS as a DLC fighter. Thankfully, he is one of the many returning fighters in Smash Ultimate.

In Smash Ultimate, Mewtwo is an S-Tier fighter, which means he is one of the best in the game. He is, however, a tricky character to get used to. His floaty jumps and generally weaker attacks can be fiddly to use, but he can sure combo quite easily once you have figured out all of his intricacies. Mewtwo is a character that you might take a while to learn, but once you do, there isn’t much better.

How to Unlock Smash Ultimate Mewtwo

Smash Ultimate Mewtwo Unlock

Mewtwo, unfortunately, is one of the more complicated characters to unlock in Smash Ultimate. Thankfully, however, there are plenty of different ways you can go about unlocking the legendary psychic type Pokemon. Remember, however, whichever route you take to unlock Mewtwo, you will have to beat him in a one-on-one fight in order to play as him. Luckily, we have a Smash Ultimate replay Challenge fights guide in case you lose.

While we’d normally tell you that the easiest way to unlock a character in Smash Ultimate would be through simply playing the game’s standard modes, unfortunately, this isn’t the case for Mewtwo. Every fight you take part in will count towards unlocking new characters. It is based on your button input during a fight, and each character will unlock in a set order (missing out any you may have already unlocked via alternative methods). Using this method to unlock Mewtwo, however, might take a while. He is the 60th fighter you will unlock in this way, straight after Chrom and right before Bowser Jr.

Mewtwo is also the final character you will unlock through playing Classic Mode through Fox’s line. Each of the original eight characters will unlock a new fighter upon beating their Classic Mode on any difficulty. You will unlock a new character each time you complete Classic Mode with either that original fighter or the ones you unlock in their character unlock path. To unlock Mewtwo, it goes in this order: Fox, Captain Falcon, Zero Suit Samus, Peach, Falco, Daisy, Bowser Jr, Wolf, and finally Mewtwo. Conversely, you can luck out and unlock Fox through World of Light and then simply beat Classic Mode with him.

How to Unlock Smash Ultimate Mewtwo in World of Light

As with every character, you can unlock Mewtwo via playing normal battles, Classic Mode, or through the World of Light. Each character will be waiting for you on the World of Light map. Once you beat the Mewtwo challenge in World of Light, for example, you will unlock him to use in the rest of the game.

Unfortunately, it won’t be quick to unlock Mewtwo this way, either. He appears towards the end of the World of Light story mode, in the World of Dark. Mewtwo will be waiting for you in the World of Dark Mysterious Dimension. You will have to beat the Wispy Woods Spirit challenge before you can take Mewtwo on, however.

It seems that whatever way you go about unlocking Mewtwo in Smash Ultimate, it will take you some time. He is one of the strongest fighters in the game, however, so it should be more than worth the effort.
