Smash Ultimate Young Link

Smash Ultimate Young Link – How to Unlock

Super Smash Bros Ultimate boasts a ridiculous range of fighters from all over Nintendo’s history, and most of them are locked, so even major Nintendo characters aren’t available at the start of the game. This includes Smash Ultimate Young Link, who’s been in Smash Bros almost as long as his adult version. But how do you unlock Young Link, and are there multiple ways to do so? Let us show you.

Who is Young Link?

Young Link is the child version of Link, the hero of The Legend of Zelda series. Not to be confused with Toon Link, who is only the star of The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker series (and possibly not even “the real” Link, but that’s a timeline argument for another day). Young Link is the protagonist of both N64 Zelda games Ocarina of Time and Majora’s Mask, and is considered the official young version of the adult Link in Smash Bros.

How to Unlock Smash Ultimate Young Link

As usual with locked characters in Smash Bros Ultimate, Young Link can be unlocked in three separate ways. The easiest is playing through Classic Mode, where he’s part of Link’s character unlock progression. You can play through any difficulty, and you’ll need to unlock Simon Belmont first. Alternatively you can keep playing regular VS matches, in which case Young Link will be only the 8th character to be unlocked, somewhere after Ridley. Of course, you’ll need to beat him in a one-on-one match too.

Alternatively, you can play through the World of Light single-player campaign, where he’s actually a pretty tough character to get. He can be found in the World of Dark section, in the Sacred Land. While this is the hardest way to unlock Young Link, this is the only way to get him for play in the World of Light campaign.
