Both Pokemon Let’s Go Pikachu and Let’s Go Eevee have proven successful for Nintendo. We know that Game Freak and Nintendo are working on Pokemon Generation 8 for Nintendo Switch, but how about a Pokemon Let’s Go 2? Will we ever see a Pokemon Let’s Go Johto? Or will Nintendo decide to leave the series behind?
Will There Be a Pokemon Let’s Go Johto Sequel?
As of writing, none of Nintendo, Game Freak, or The Pokemon Company has announced a sequel to Pokemon Let’s Go. This doesn’t mean we won’t ever see a Pokemon Let’s Go 2. There is a chance, however, that both Pokemon Let’s Go and the more traditional Pokemon games will co-exist together.
Speaking to Eurogamer, Junichi Masuda (Game Freak executive director) explained that a sequel to Pokemon Let’s Go could happen, if the original game was received well enough. Masuda’s explanation begins with him reasoning why ‘Mon such as Igglybuff was not in Pokemon Let’s Go: “In the first generation there aren’t any Pokemon Eggs… when we thought about how would these Pokemon be hatched in the first place, it… didn’t make any sense. But also… we wanted to spend more time and put more effort into making the Kanto Pokemon… and expressing them as well as we could.”
When asked if this meant that Game Freak was planning on developing a Pokemon Let’s Go Johto, Masuda simply said: “so you know maybe, if everyone enjoys playing [Pokemon Let’s Go Pikachu and Eevee].”
So who knows? With the positive reception and strong sales of Pokemon Let’s Go, we could see a sequel someday. Pokemon Let’s Go Pichu and Marill, perhaps?
Pokemon Let’s Go Johto – What New Features Could it Bring?
A Pokemon Let’s Go Johto game would be based upon Pokemon Crystal, just as Let’s Go is based on Yellow. We would adventure through the world of Johto and be able to catch all of the second generation of Pokemon. That means the likes of Totodile, Entei, and Ho-Oh. It would also need to contain all of Kanto, just as the original games did. This leads us to believe that instead of a direct sequel, however, Johto could be added in as DLC. It’s time to wait and see.
