Looking for a way to unlock the Resident Evil 2remake PS1 skins? You’ve probably seen them around already and are desperate to dive into Raccoon City while looking a little more low-rest than usual. However, getting the ’98 Leon and ’98 Claire outfits (the year, of course, being in reference to the original Resident Evil 2 release) is a bit of a maze, with things stuck behind region-exclusivity and timed windows. Here’s what you need to know.
What are the Resident Evil 2 Remake PS1 Skins?
As revealed during a Capcom livestream in Japan, the Resident Evil 2 Remake PS1 skins are essentially outfits for the 2019 RE 2 release which make both Leon S. Kennedy and Claire Redfield look like their original, blocky, polygonal counterparts. So, if you want to, you’ll be able to play through the entirety of the scenario(s) of your choosing just as the PSX gods intended.
We’ve seen this trend several times over the years, most notable in Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots and, more recently, a Lara Croft PS1 skin cropping up in Shadow of the Tomb Raider. Polygons are back, baby!
How to unlock the ’98 Leon and ’98 Claire outfits
Now, this is the annoying bit. As per reports, this is a Japan-only exclusive for now. To get your hands on it, you need to buy special Resi 2-branded PlayStation Store credit, worth 3,000 yen, and you’ll then be presumably given a code to download the Resi 2 Remake PS1 skins.
However, Siliconera also refers to the ’98 Leon and ’98 Claire outfits being available worldwide on March 22. As of right now, it’s unclear if they will be free DLC, available through a promotion, or available to purchase in the PlayStation Store. Seemingly, though, this is going to be a PlayStation exclusive and not available on either the Xbox One or PC. After all, polygons made its home on the PS1, and it’d feel a little odd to have them show up on other platforms.
