Kingdom Hearts 3 Choose Wisdom, Vitality, or Balance | Should I pick the Guardian, Warrior, or Mystic Sora class?

Stuck already? The Kingdom Hearts 3 choose Wisdom, Vitality, or Balance option might have you scratching your head during the opening, especially as the game presents Sora with cryptic clues and an even more confusing further three choices later on involving picking the Guardian, the Warrior, and the Mystic. Here’s what you should choose depending on your playstyle and what build you want your Sora class to be at the start of the game. Fancy a melee build or a magic build for example? We’ve got you covered.

Kingdom Hearts 3 Opening choices and classes

Kingdom Hearts 3, after its first handful of openings and cutscenes, drops Sora into a very familiar looking starting area. Here you’ll be asked “What do you desire?” You’re offered three choices, symbolized by iconic moments in the franchise. They are:

  • Wisdom: A sharp mind that will grant you mastery of wondrous power
  • Vitality: A rugged body that will endure even the toughest of challenges
  • Balance: A body and mind of equal merit and equal potential

Balance aside, that can pretty confusing, but you’re tasked with picking one – and we’ll list the ramifications in just a moment. Sora has no time to wait around, though, as he gets given another three choices and must pick one by interacting with it:

  • The power of the guardian: Kindness to aid friends
  • The power of the warrior: Invincible courage
  • The power of the mystic: Inner strength

Once that’s done, you’re free to begin the tutorials and first world, though you’re free to change your mind just after picking the second set of options. Press “No” when asked “Is this who you are?”

So, what does it all mean? The first three choices of Wisdom, Vitality and Balance offer up various base HP and MP changes, depending on what you pick. We’ll cover them first.

Kingdom Hearts 3 | Should I choose Wisdom?

Fancy yourself as a bit of a magician? While the 90 HP is the lowest out of all the classes, you’ll be pleased to know this is offset by a 120 MP total.

Kingdom Hearts 3 | Should I choose Vitality?

If you’re looking for more of a tank build then you should absolutely pick Vitality. You start with the highest possible base HP stat at 120 HP but a relatively low 100 MP beginning stat.

Kingdom Hearts 3 | Should I choose Balance?

Balance, meanwhile, presents the best of both worlds: 105 HP and 110 MP for those looking to err on the side of caution.

Kingdom Hearts 3 Should I Choose Guardian, Warrior, or Mystic?

It will not be immediately obvious, though, what Guardian, Warrior, and Mystic all do. They are, however, intrinsically tied to whether you want to play as a mage, melee, or defense/tank build

The Guardian allows Sora to open up a chain of Defense-based abilities to unlock further in the game, such as Damage Control and Guard Regeneration. Perfect for those who don’t mind being on the back foot now and again and would work well with Vitality.

Kingdom Hearts 3 | Should I pick the Warrior?

Attack is the best form of defense. The Warrior puts emphasis on combos, including Air Combo Plus and Combo Boost abilities being unlocked as you level Sora up.

Finally, if you want magic abilities more frequently and earlier than any other build, choose Mystic. You get a Fire Boost, for example, at level 9, which is far earlier than the likes of the Guardian and the Warrior. Magic Combo Set also unlocks at level 2, meaning you’re set for elemental attacks from afar.

Donald and Goofy: Donald and Goofy do not change, regardless of pick. Donald will always be a predominantly magic-based character, while Goofy is more of an offensive/tank character.
