With the announcement by Microsoft of the Halo Master Chief Collection coming to PC at long last, PC fans of the Halo series now have a lot to celebrate, since previously the last mainline game in the FPS series to make it to PC was Halo 2. Of course, the one game not in the Master Chief Collection is the most recent Xbox One Halo game, Halo 5: Guardians. We’re now asking the important question, will there be a Halo 5 PC version? Is Halo 5 coming to PC? We’ll do our best to answer.
Is Halo 5 coming to PC?
Microsoft has previously stated, as recently as September last year, that the studio “does not have plans to launch Halo 5: Guardians on Windows 10 PC.” Halo 5‘s Forge mode previously appeared on PC, allowing PC players to create custom maps and essentially play Halo 5 multiplayer somewhere other than Xbox One, but otherwise there has been no indication that the full game will come across.
However, the announcement of the Halo Master Chief Collection coming to PC, alongside the confirmation that the next game in the series Halo Infinite will also be coming to PC (at the same time as the Xbox One version), leads us to strongly suspect that Microsoft will bring Halo 5 to PC. It does not make sense to have every other Halo game, including Reach, ODST, Wars, Wars 2, and Spartan Assault, on PC if a major game in the series is going to be left out. Microsoft has pledged to bring all Xbox One exclusives to PC, including Gears of War 4 and Forza Horizon 4, so we could totally see it happening. It would make sense.
When can we expect to get a Halo 5 PC version?
Here’s the other important question. The release of the Halo Master Chief Collection will be staggered, or episodic, beginning with Reach and ending with Halo 4. It would certainly make sense to release Halo 5 Guardians on PC after this point, but we currently have no idea of the release schedule for all these games. They could be a couple of weeks apart, or they could be months. We currently don’t even know when Halo Reach will appear. If we were to take a guess, we’d suggest a Halo 5 PC release date of 2020, prior to the release of Halo Infinite. Your guess is as good as ours on this point, however.
