The Smash Ultimate 3.0 update is one we didn’t see coming. Stealthily unleashed by Nintendo overnight on April 17, the new Super Smash Bros Ultimate update today is seriously bringing the goods. Joker enters the fray from the Persona series, alongside a stage from the RPG series as well as some of its most-beloved tracks. There’s also Mii Fighter Costumes involving Knuckles, Tails, and more Persona characters, as well as the hotly-anticipated Stage Builder mode. It’s all found down below in the Smash Ultimate 3.0 update patch notes.
Smash Ultimate 3.0 Update
Joker joins the battle!
If you’ve already bought the Fighter Pass, Joker from Persona 5 will be added to your roster as soon as you download the Smash Ultimate 3.0 update.
Judging from the Smash Ultimate 3.0 reveal, Joker will look to be one of the most nimble and hard-hitting fighters. His moves including a simple Gun attack, a Grappling Hook to draw foes in, a burning Eiha projectile, and a deflective Rebel’s Guard move. The latter will also help increase his Rebellion Gauge, alongside taking damage and losing lives. Once that’s filled, you’ll be joined on the stage by your Persona, Arsene. He comes with an extremely powerful counter attack which can turn the tide of battle in an instant.
Mementos stage
Of course, that isn’t the only slice of Persona content you’re getting. Smash Ultimate 3.0 also comes equipped with a new stage. Mementos in Persona 5 was the deep, darkest underbelly of people’s memories and here, well, it’s a fairly standard stage.
But it’s the Persona songs that’ll make the difference. If one of the four Persona 4 songs or trio of Persona 3 songs starts playing during a fight on Mementos, the stage will transform into the color scheme attributed to each game.
Mii Fighter Costumes
For some, this might be the coolest aspect of the Smash Ultimate 3.0 update. There are six new Mii Fighter Costumes that you can pick up for $0.75 each. The chief highlights include Knuckles and Tails from the Sonic series, as well as the Persona 3 and Persona 4 main characters. There’s even a cutesy Morgana hat. D’aww!
Stage Builder mode
We all knew this one was coming, but it’s a nice treat all the same. There’s Handheld mode available for free-hand sketching on your Switch tablet, plus a bevvy of other options for you to play around with. You can even download the best custom stages from around the world with the new Shared Content feature.
