Following yesterday’s Call of Duty Black Ops 4 update, there is a brand-new Specialist to play as: Spectre. Spectre is part of the Operation Spectre Rising update and content and is a returning Specialist from Black Ops 3. In this Black Ops 4 Spectre Specialist guide, we’ll tell you all you need to know about the mysterious new Specialist. If you want to know how to unlock Spectre, the Black Ops 4 new Specialist playstyle, the Spectre Abilities, and more, this is definitely the guide for you. Read on for all of the Spectre details you could ever need.
Black Ops 4 Spectre Specialist Guide | How to unlock
Everyone will want to get their hands on the mysterious Spectre, the latest returning Specialist in Black Ops 4. Thankfully, Spectre is easy to unlock. All you need to do in order to unlock Spectre for both Multiplayer and Blackout is complete Tier One of the Operation Spectre Rising event. That’s it. Please bear in mind, however, that Spectre in Blackout is just a skin and doesn’t come with any special abilities.
You can do this in a number of ways, too. Winning a Multiplayer match will unlock your Daily Tier Skip, as will bagging yourself a Merit in Blackout and even getting to Round 15 in a Zombies game. It’s ever so simple to unlock Spectre, which is nice. You technically don’t even have to play the game: You can simply buy the Tier One unlock with 100 COD Points. It’s easy and stress-free, nothing complicated at all, just how we like it.
Black Ops 4 Spectre Specialist Guide | Spectre Abilities
Spectre has changed since it appeared in Black Ops 3. Gone are the Ripper and Active Camo abilities. What we have now though, is arguably an improvement. It should lead to different strategies at the very least.
Spectre comes equipped with the following in Black Ops 4:
- Special Issue: Smoke. After it has done reloading, Spectre can drop its very own smoke grenade. This smoke grenade is more powerful than others, however. It has a large smoke radius that only Spectre can see enemies through.
- Specialist Weapon: Shadow Blade. The Shadow Blade has replaced the Ripper, but it is just as useful. When using the Shadow Blade, the game will switch to a third-person perspective. You will home in on enemies with the Shadow Blade, striking them down with one hit. You can also just swing the blade around, killing anyone who gets too close.
On top of all of this, you will be able to dodge your enemies when using Spectre’s Shadow Blade. You can dodge roll forwards, side-to-side, and even backflip while using that deadly blade. Strike when your enemies least expect it. The smoke, too, will remove aim assist for anyone caught in its harmful radius. Perfect for when you want to clear a room or make a quick getaway.
Black Ops 4 Spectre Specialist Guide | New Specialist playstyle
Unlocking Spectre is easy, but what about the new Specialist’s playstyle? Thankfully, we’re here to help you out with this, too. There’s a decent amount to get into here, so pay attention.
Spectre is a quick character, actively becoming much faster when using the Shadow Blade Specialist Weapon. You can dodge from side to side, roll forwards, and backflip while using the Shadow Blade, too. As Spectre is quick and can make use of powerful smoke grenades, we’d recommend a playstyle that will go along with it. Either run-and-gun or stealth play should work wonders here.
When you aren’t using Spectre’s Shadow Blade, however, you won’t move much faster than your opponents (if at all). You will be able to use your smoke grenade though. That’s why we’d recommend equipping weapons that will suit those advantages. Try pairing Spectre up with loadouts that either help to hide you from opponents or ones that will make you lighter on your feet and keep you from being spotted on radar.
Try to smoke opponents out and take them out one by one as they are blinded and you are not. This is a quick and deadly Specialist and it’s up to you to get the most out of your new favorite class.
In terms of what guns are best for Spectre, keep on reading. There are a few suggestions down below.
Black Ops 4 Spectre Specialist Guide | Best guns
As stated above, Spectre is a Specialist that you should try to use either stealthily or pair with quick guns. As such, we think that SMGs are as good a bet as any here (they’re always a good option). We’d go so far as to recommend SMGs paired with silencers, as this should keep you silent and deadly.
Shotguns could be a decent choice for Spectre, too. Dropping a smoke grenade and unleashing unholy fire on your enemies in a packed environment with a shotgun does sound fun. Equip your shotgun with anything that’ll make the weapon even more powerful and you’ll be laughing.
On the flipside, sniper rifles could be a good matchup with Spectre. This is a character that seemingly likes staying hidden, so why not stick to the shadows? You could always use your smoke grenade to get out of any sticky situations you might find yourself in. Pair a sniper rifle with an SMG or shotgun, though, now we’re talking.
We’d recommend avoiding heavy weapons such as LMGs and rocket launchers when playing as Spectre. Stick to light weapons and quick movement as often as possible with this Specialist.
