Sea of Thieves Bait Locations

As players explore the Sea of Thieves Anniversary update, they’ll come across a variety of new fish that they can catch, cook, and sell. Of course, if you want to learn to catch all of the different fish in Sea of Thieves, you’re going to need to know how to find all of the Sea of Thieves bait locations that you can discover. This guide will go over the various types of bait available to players in the open-world pirate game, as well as talk a little bit about the different fish that are available in the game, and which bait types you’ll need to use to catch them.

Sea of Thieves Bait Locations

Altogether there is a total of three types of bait that players can find and make use of in Sea of Thieves Anniversary update for Xbox One and Windows PC. These bait types include Earthworms, Grubs, and Leeches. Each piece of bait will unlock a variety of different fish that players can possibly catch, all depending on the location that they device to fish within.

If you want to stock up on the various baits, then you’re going to need to know the bait locations you need to search in Sea of Thieves. Unfortunately, there isn’t really any kind of set area that you can find the specific bait types within. Instead, you’ll need to explore the world and visit the various outposts and seaposts around the map.

Sea of Thieves bait locations

You can find bait by searching the resource barrels where you also find various food items like bananas, pineapple, and other useful items. At the moment there does not appear to be any additional ways to get your hands-on bait, but we’ll keep an eye out for updates in the future.

If you’re planning on spending a good deal of time fishing for specific fish, then we’d suggest taking around thirty minutes to an hour to stock up on as much bait as possible. This will allow you to spend less time searching for bait locations later on, and more time enjoying the actual fishing part of the entire ordeal.

Fish Bait Types in Sea of Thieves

Now that you know where to find bait locations in Sea of Thieves,  it is time to talk about the fish that you can catch with each type of bait. As stated above, there are three types of bait, which means you’ll need to learn which bait to use when you try to catch certain fish.

As it stands right now, there are ten types of fish for players to catch, cook, and sell in Sea of Thieves. These fish include the Splashtail, Ancientscale, Wildsplash, and others. We’ve compiled a full list of the various fish below, as well as marked off exactly which bait you’ll need (if any) to catch them. One thing to keep in mind, though: Just because a fish doesn’t require bait to catch it, does not mean it will be uninterested in your line if you have bait on it. For example, the Pondie will still go after your line, even if you have a Grub, Earthworm, or Leech on it. You’ll only need to use the bait if you’re absolutely looking for the type of fish that requires that bait.

  • Ancientscale – Requires Leeches to catch.
  • Battlegill – Use Grubs to catch this fish type.
  • Devilfish – Requires Grubs to catch.
  • Islehopper – No bait needed to catch this fish.
  • Plentifin – Use Earthworms to catch this fish type.
  • Pondie – You won’t need any kind of bait for this fish.
  • Splashtail – No bait required to catch this fish.
  • Stormfish – Use Leeches to lure this fish onto your line.
  • Wildsplash – This fish requires Earthworms to catch.
  • Wrecker – You’ll need Earthworms to catch this fish.

As you can see from the list above, each fish either requires a specific bait, or no bait to be lured onto your line. Keep this in mind when you head out onto the open seas in search of more fish to cook and sell. That’s really all you need to know about bait locations in Sea of Thieves. You should also have all the knowledge you need to use the correct bait to attract the ten different species of fish available in the game.
