Figuring out the best Nintendo Switch replacement dock isn’t an easy task. There aren’t many name brand contenders, and it’s important to choose a Switch dock that won’t damage your console. Fortunately, there are options if you need a second dock or something has happened to the one that came with your console.
We’ve gathered four entries below that we think serve as a suitable replacement for your Nintendo Switch dock. Each of them varies in size and shape, but all of them will allow you to charge your Switch and output video to your TV.
Best Switch Dock Replacement #1: Nintendo Switch Dock Set by Nintendo
You can’t go wrong with the OEM Switch Dock from Nintendo. This first-party product is precisely the same as you would get with a new Nintendo Switch and as such is guaranteed to work flawlessly with the system.
8bitdo Wireless Adapter | Use a PS4 controller with your Switch for $20.99
The Nintendo Switch Dock Set features the dock, an HDMI cable, and an AC to USB-C power adapter. This means that all you need is the Switch itself. If for some reason you lose everything except the console this set will get you back in action.
Best Switch Dock Replacement #2: Defway Switch Dock, Portable Switch Charging Stand
The original Nintendo Switch dock can be a bit bulky, especially if you’re traveling. If you want a second dock that takes up a lot less room you can pick up the Defway Switch Dock. It’s more of a stand than a dock, but it does an excellent of outputting video and charging your Switch while keeping it upright and in one position.
The Defway Switch Dock offers most of the same capabilities as the original dock does in a smaller footprint. You’ll get a USB-C port that is used to power and charge your system, an HDMI out port for video, and a USB 3.0 port for connecting a controller or other accessory. The only thing the Defway is missing is the two USB 2.0 ports that come standard on the OEM Nintendo dock.
The Defway dock also works well if you just need a charge. A button on the top of the dock allows you to turn video out on and off so you can easily use the stand to play in tabletop mode while your Switch charges.
Best Switch Dock Replacement #3: Hycarus Switch TV Dock Charging Station Adapter
The Hycarus Switch dock serves as an alternative to the Defway dock and works much the same way. This dock has the advantage of also including two USB 2.0 ports in addition to the USB-C, USB 3.0, and HDMI out connections. If you use corded controllers with your Switch, this allows you to get several more players in without worrying about having to use a USB hub.
Hycarus also claims that its dock features “unique cooling holes” which allow heat from the console to dissipate easier. We’re not sure how much these holes help with cooling the Switch, but if you find your system gets too hot, then the additional cooling will be welcome.
Best Switch Dock Replacement #4: FastSnail HDMI Type-C Hub Adapter for Nintendo Switch
If you’re going for an extremely minimalistic way of powering your Switch and getting the video to your TV, the FastSnail HDMI Type-C Hub Adapter gives you the capabilities of a standard dock in a small, dongle-like package.
The FastSnail adapter is only 2 in x 2.28 in excluding the cord, but packs in a USB-C port for power, HDMI out and a USB 3.0 port. This allows you to use your Switch on a TV just like an original dock but is only a little larger than a pack of matches.
The only drawback of the FastSnail hub is that it doesn’t offer any anchor to your Switch. You’ll have to make sure that your console is in a safe, non-slip area when you’re connecting it to a TV. You also run the risk when you have a controller connected via USB of accidentally moving the system if you pull on the cord too hard.
