Temple Run 2 is a runaway (sorry, I couldn't help myself) success, but you don't want to get stuck on the bottom of the ladder. The best part of playing Temple Run is boasting about your high score with friends. For that, you've got GameRevolution.
With these three tips and tricks, your runs will last longer, you'll earn more coins, faster, and your friends won't know what hit them when you steal the top spot away. Let's get to it. That treasure's not going to steal itself:
Steal Time To React
This is an essential that previous Temple Run champs had to master as well. If you're going for the long haul, the distance, the moolah, everything, you need to keep running and never stop. In order to accomplish this, there are things you can do to buy yourself time. Say you're hit top speed, but the twists and turns are getting to be too much for your reflexes. Purposefully tripping or running into a side-rail will slow you down and reset the Temple Run monster directly behind you. Be careful not to do this twice in a row as you'll get picked up by the monster.
The same can be said of other obstacles. Maneuvering your character in the right way can buy your fingers some time. I have trouble frequently with the collapsed bridges where you can only get by if you're on one side of the path or the other. In order to make room for myself to tilt all the way to the right or left, I like to jump just before I get to the broken section. Then I can tilt while my character is in the air.
Know Your Hazard
The only way to get past some of Temple Run 2's deadlier sequences is to have hazard avoiding moves built into your muscle memory. This involves a lot of playtime and repetition, but once you've got minecarts, tree roots, rivers, and Temple monsters figured out, things will get a lot easier.
The best way to learn the game early and often is to splurge on resurrection gems. It only costs one gem to save yourself the first time, so go ahead and bring your runner back to life and keep plowing away. A high score is pretty much unattainable if you're not willing to revive yourself from time to time. Just know you can't buy your way to the #1 spot. It might be tempting to empty your checking account for gems, but a paid-for-victory kind of defeats the spirit in this free-to-play autorunner.
Minecart Madness
I hate the minecart sequences with a passion. If you could see some kind of heat map of where I've lost stellar runs, you'd see the minecart in a big red ocean. For whatever reason, the minecart areas challenge Temple Runners in ways never seen before. This is likely due to the natural vision impairment that comes with tilting your phone's screen in and out of view. If you can't see what's ahead, how can you avoid it?
That said, one thing you should know is that you should always have your phone at an angle and never rest in the neutral position. You are 100% guaranteed to fall into the abyss with your phone in neutral, but there's a chance that you won't fall if you're in the middle of a fast swing from left to right (or vice versa). What's more, coins don't come down the center lane, so there's no need to be there. While that takes care of the tilting problem, remember that you still have to duck and see what's coming at you. Turn your screen's brightness up to have better visibility at all viewing angles.
With these tips and tricks, your friends won't know what knocked them off the leaderboard. Long runs, skilled play, and a quick tilt can mean the difference between you and water-cooler humiliation. Play wisely and you might just run off with the temple's treasure.
