Pokemon Sword and Shield | How to get Gigantamax Meowth

Every recent Pokemon game has a kind of gimmick mechanic that makes its battling stand out from the rest, and Dynamaxing is Pokemon Sword and Shield’s. This mechanic makes Pokemon grow to huge sizes, increasing their power immensely. Some Pokemon even change forms when Dynamaxed, becoming Gigantamax Pokemon. Players who buy either game early are able to receive a special Meowth that can do this, but it’s not super clear how to get it. Read this guide to learn how to get Gigantamax Meowth in Pokemon Sword and Shield.

Where is Gigantamax Meowth in Pokemon Sword and Shield?

Pokemon Sword and Shield gigantamax meowth mystery gift

Every player who obtains either Pokemon Sword or Pokemon Shield before January 15, 2020 will be able to receive Gigantamax Meowth. While the games won’t tell you where to get it, you can actually have Gigantamax Meowth join your party very early in your journey. As soon as you get your first Pokemon from Leon, you can press X to hop into your menu and select “Mystery Gift.” Next, hit “Get via Internet.” Once you’ve connected to Wi-Fi, you’ll see “Gigantamax Meowth Gift.” Select this, and Gigantamax Meowth will be added to your party. Meowth will start out at level five, so it’s best to get it early so you can properly level it up.

If you’ve already caught six Pokemon, Gigantamax Meowth will automatically be sent to the Pokemon Storage Box. To access this, go to the computer in the back left corner of any Pokemon Center. Alternatively, you’ll also receive an item early in the game that allows you to access the Box without traveling to a Pokemon Center, so you can pull Meowth into your party that way.

In order to get Meowth into its Gigantamax form, you’ll have to gain the ability to Dynamax Pokemon from Sword and Shield’s Pokemon professor. This won’t happen until about 90 minutes into the story. Once you’ve received this ability, you can only Dynamax Pokemon in certain situations, like gym battles and Max Raid Battles, so don’t expect to be able to activate your big Meowth in any ordinary duel.
