It’s been more than nine years (seriously, almost a decade) since we last got a mainline game in Microsoft’s beloved RPG series. Long has it been rumored that Fable 4 is in active development at Forza Horizon studio Playground Games, however, with several pieces of evidence alluding to but not outright proving its existence. Recently, confirmation has seemed closer than ever, courtesy of what appears to be leaked concept art appearing online. As a new Fable sequel continues to look increasingly likely, what might the Fable 4 release date be?
When will Fable 4 launch?
A lot of people expected Playground Games’ vision of the Fable franchise to be unveiled at E3 2019, but, unfortunately, that didn’t happen. The belief was fuelled as murmurings of a new action RPG being developed at the studio evolved into hirings, but when it failed to appear, rather than dashing expectations, people simply transitioned to expect a Fable 4 announcement during E3 2020 instead.

Although there’s nothing official on the game just yet, if the UK developer has been working on a new Fable game for as long as rumors suggest, it might not be all that far from release. A mere two years separated Lionhead Studios’ launch of Fable 2 and Fable 3, which is almost the same length of time that Fable 4 has been alleged to be in development now. Although technology and the team working on it are very different at this point, the potential for a holiday 2020 release appears to be there.
What’s interesting about this is that the next-generation Xbox hardware, currently codenamed Project Scarlett, is scheduled to release in that same timeframe. The Microsoft E3 2020 press conference promises huge Project Scarlett reveals, one of which has the potential to be Fable 4 as a launch title for the next Xbox.
Do bear in mind that this is speculation, so stick with GameRevolution for more Fable 4 release date news as and when we get it.
