Epic Games’ hugely popular Fortnite has seen its fair share of collaborations throughout the years, but perhaps the most ambitious yet was the Fortnite x Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker crossover event. It offered players the chance to purchase skins of their favourite Star Wars characters and watch a clip from the movie, but, perhaps even more notably, the celebration allowed players to make use of the series’ iconic lightsabers free of charge. They’re still stashed around the map right now, which has many players wondering when will lightsabers be out of Fortnite?
When are lightsabers leaving Fortnite?
Lightsabers are universally loved both conceptually and in cinema, but within Fortnite their presence has been more divisive. Some players enjoyed having the ability to deflect gunfire and easily cut down enemies, while many believed that it was a cheap tactic and didn’t appreciate falling victim to it. Regardless of how you feel, lightsabers are only a temporary thing and soon the Fortnite status quo will be restored.

Developer Epic Games hasn’t made any official announcement to answer the question “when will lightsabers be removed from Fortnite?” just yet, but that doesn’t prevent it from weighing heavily on many players’ minds. Thankfully, prolific Fortnite data-miner @HYPEX has offered an answer as seen in the tweet below.
As of now the Lightsabers are scheduled to be removed from default modes on January 7!

HYPEX suggests that as of Tuesday, January 7, 2020, lightsabers will be removed from all default modes in Fortnite. Although this is obviously subject to change due to its nature as a leak, currently the evidence does seem to suggest that lightsabers will be out of Fortnite on January 7.
It’s specified that lightsabers will be removed from “default” modes on this date, so it may be possible that they’ll live on in Creative. There’s no guarantee of this, however, so they may be vaulted until the next potential in-game Star Wars event.
