Sadly, at the time of writing, there isn’t yet any confirmed way to unlock the switchblade in Apex Legends. In fact, the Octane heirloom has only just been discovered in the game’s files. iLootGames shared the image on Twitter, alongside a curious Gibraltar skin.
If Respawn Entertainment continues to distribute heirlooms in the usual way, you can expect the Octane heirloom to pop up during an event. This event will have a number of unique items which, once all are bought/collected, unlock the Octane heirloom.
This does mean that the Octane switchblade heirloom will likely be paid for, through the need to obtain all event items. As a free-to-play game, microtransactions like this need to be implemented in order to justify the game’s existence. It might be disappointing to some hardcore Octane players, but that is unfortunately how things have played out so far, and how they are likely to continue.
